I was just reading an article online about a new harness track that will begin operations this spring. The track will be called Tioga Downs. Does any PA member have any further info on this harness oval? What will be the size of the oval...1/2, 5/8, 7/8, or 1 mile circumference?

Should be interesting to see how many betting companies will be adding Tioga Downs to their betting menus.

Here's a link to the article:

Thanks,

I am almost certain it is a 5/8 mile track.. I am trying to find the article where I read that.

Some of those Canadians have what may be called slightly dubious
reputations. They have been trying to get slots for this facililty since
the day they purchased it. I don't believe they are really serious about
harness racing but just watch the action on their penny stock. The stock is
not for the fainthearted.

The following from an August 1949 Harness Horse issue:

Owego, New York
County fair racing was inaugurated in southern New York State at the Tioga County Fair, Owego, N. Y., with over 100 horses from Pennsylvania, Maryland and New York stabled on the grounds. The new stables at the fairground as well as the old were completely filled and several horse owners in the village of Owego graciously took care of the overflow of horses in their private barns.

I am willing to guarantee that it's going to be a mix of horsemen from Pocono, Vernon Downs, and Buffalo Raceway. If Vernon does not reopen, they should make Jim Moran the announcer at Tioga.

I remeber Tioga as a Quarter horse track back in the 70's - it is in southern NYS if it the same track.
