Last night I watched a newsmagazine show dealing with medications (read doping) used on racehorses.

Subjects included the use of bute and the dangers it posed to jocks and horses alike. They noted that in the previous year 2000 horses had broken down on the track and showed numerous videos of bad crashes. Also noted was the use of lasix and its supposed ability to mask other (illegal) drugs.

Several noted trainers bemoaned the use of such substances by "other" noted trainers (names witheld).

Also mentioned was the detrimental effects on the breed should such practices continue.

The show was "60 minutes", first aired in 1979.

Apparently the broadcast had little effect.
