I was wondering what everyones thoughts are on the role that slots are playing with track class and purse value.

I have used several programs that calculate class by using the avg money won. Is this concept still valid? I see where a Clm 5 at Mnr has a higher purse value than a Clm 10 at Hol.

Is it time for someone to construct a new Track Class chart for slots and non slots tracks and use that to factor the purse distribution?

Any other thoughts or Ideas?

Rat,

Purse structures today just do not transfer from track to track as they did years ago.

Not only do we have the problem of slots but also the issues with statebred races vs. "open" races with extra money paid to statebreds. There is also the issue of some tracks raising their purses to attract horsemen to send their animals longer distances (i.e. Canterbury Downs).

My point is that purses are just not the measuring stick they once were.
