New NTRA slogan " Go Frank Go "

Let's hope this pays off for Frank. MEC has to shore up that bottom line, or all this is for naught.

Plus, if they want to at least APPEAR as competent bidders for the NYRA franchise, they will have to succeed on at least ONE of their past acquisitions.....I guess Gulfstream is going to be the model.....funny....they've been in this business for how long now?

And Gulfstream will be the only one they can point at as a success in all this time that has gone by.....

This is interesting timing indeed.....

At least "Go Frank Go" is better than "Bleed MEC Bleed"

If he wins the NYRA franchise, I know you will be pleased with the changes. Remember, like Bill Gates, he started his business venture in his garage, one step at a time.

Was his newest start "in his garage" after his first bankruptcy or his second bankruptcy?

And his (Bill's) procuct belongs in the "garbage."
I wouldn't point ot Windows as a model for anything, so maybe it is not a good analogy.;)

Unfortunately I read somewhere that 85% of PC users are tied into to Bill Gates. As far as bankruptcy, Donald Trump just had his Atlantic City Casino go bellyup, doesn't bother him or Stronach as long as you are using "other peoples" money.

I for one can't wait to see Gulfstream completed. They have a new artist drawing of the clubhouse up at their website and it looks magnificent. I'm even looking forward to going down this year. It looks like they are doing very well getting the place ready and I'll need that warm Fla sunshine come February. Magna is a big company that has clearly loused a lot of things up, but they have done some things right too and the Gulfstream project will be a real jewel for them as long as they keep it on track.

Most people I know would rather bet from their living room than go to the track for live racing. The days of spending tons on a new facility should have been over a while back. The racing surface should be nice and worth the money, but the clubhouse? Probably another blunder ala Laurel, but time will tell.

I think its a great thing that people can bet from home and see the races, but to me there's still nothing like being there. And going to the races is still the cheapest sports ticket going. Personally I have no desire at all to bet from home. I love the interaction. People cheering on their horses. Talking to other players. Even if its just at the OTB. Maybe I'm in the minority, but to me that's what makes it fun (well....winning is pretty good too :)) and the day it stops being fun and is only focused on the money is when hopefully I'll just walk away from it all. As for the facility, I think that's good for the new fan, which the sport needs more of. Seeing something live can be the real hook that gets you forever and having a nice facility can get families and casually interested people there whereas a bland cinderblock looking structure won't.

I can't think of one sporting event that I would rather be sitting in front of the TV watching, rather than being there. Come on, you just handicaped a $22.00 horse and won, who do you share this with, the dog, the cat, a 5 year old ? Does anybody ask you who you like in the 5th race and you reply the 2 is a lock and it wins. The inner joy as you walk up to the teller and he counts out a stack of $20's while "they" are watching.

Exactly...though I have run like hell out of Aqueduct with that big roll of 20s in my pocket, but even that was good for a "war story".

I don't know about you, but I bet at home and share my experiences with my family. Its not a secret or anything, and I'd rather impress them than "they" every time.

I consider racing more of a part time job than a sporting event.
