It seems a lot of things have changed at Dover Downs since a spent a few frigid nights there in the early 90s, but the size of the betting pools isn't one of them! :D

That quality of horses certainly has... They do ok for a mid day track.. I think they do a million most days..

From the days when you were there CJ, the total amount bet on Dover harness has gone up by a huge amount. I was there also and remember the days of $1,000 WIN pools. TOTAL handles of under $200,000. Quite a bit larger with many days of $800,000 to 1 million in handle.

And the days of the $2200 Open race... That now goes for $33,000

I went there about a year before they got the slots in the 90's.
I'll never forget it. The feature race had a purse of $1,000....on a Saturday afternoon. Purses for the other 12 races averaged $800 a race. Eddie Dennis was the leading driver at the time.

I'll never forget it because I hit 5 cold trifectas that day. Red hot. It was my only visit there.

Needless to say that the only pool even remotely handling 4 figures was the trifecta. It would get about $2500 per race. A $100,000 handle was totally out of the question.

And OH MAN I wish that I had went to Harrington pre-slots. To see races in the mud there with a mile in 2:20. Now THAT'S racing.
