The article had stated that 32 NYCOTB branches will permanently close as of close of business on Christmas Eve. The branches scheduled for closure were not listed (other than the one on Court Street in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn).

Alan Hevesi, Comptroller for the State of New York, has stated that NYCOTB will likely end up with a total loss of $7.6 million and is not expected to show a profit "during fiscal years 2005 through 2008 unless proposed cost reductions are successfully implemented."

That's a shame about the Court Street OTB in Carroll Gardens. I used to live near that OTB in the 80s and it was a great place. Really. My favorite thing about that OTB was that they didn't show the races back then, audio only, yet whenever the announcer declared the finish " too close to call ", everyone in the joint knew who won....and somehow they were always right. It was a classic place. Just another part of horse racing history now.

To be honest, I didn't realize how serious that announcement was until I did the math.

In regards to branches, NYCOTB is closing 32 of 65 branches. Nearly half will be gone as of 12/26!!!

It will be very interesting to see which ones remain.

Guys, read the article carefully, it says it is closing a 32 year old OTB parlor, not 32 OTB parlors. It says maybe 3 or 4 total will close.
