Besides being an anti-inflammatory; does anybody else have another reason why it can dramatically effect horses' performance??

It's interesting because many jurisdictions don't allow Bute - and horses coming to jurisdictions that do allow it many see some form reversals.

Perhaps Bute itself isn't the performance enhancer, but it masks the real juice.

There was a thread not too long ago about "believable" Beyer numbers and what tracks/circuits had most credibility and ones that had to be viewed skeptically. I thought one common denominator in quite a few of the "questionable tracks" was the legal use of Bute. That would make sense since Bute is a pain-killer.
