Multiple stakes winner Senor Ladd earned the honors as top three-year-old male, sprinter, and New England-bred horse when the New England Turf Writers Association announced its champions for 2004.

The James B. Moseley Award for horse of the year will be announced at the awards dinner, which is scheduled to take place after the 2005 live racing season in New England begins at Suffolk Downs in the spring.

Owned by Carlee Thoroughbreds and bred in Massachusetts by Miriam Nelen, Senor Ladd won five of ten starts this season, including three stakes races at Suffolk Downs. The Senor Conquistador gelding has won six of 14 career starts and has earned $139,210.

Other divisional champions include:

Two-year-old male—Three and Two, owned by Samuel Saccardo and bred by Penny’s In A Stream LLC;

Two-year-old filly—Cape Cod Rose, owned and bred by Henry and Donald Berry;

Three-year-old filly—Lady Beelzebub, owned by Sandra Winn Bonnell and bred by Sez Who Thoroughbreds;

Older male—Milky Way Guy, owned by Yasou Stable Trust and bred by Arthur Appleton;

Older female—Quick Smoke, owned and bred by John Murphy;

Turf male—Milky Way Guy;

Turf female—Laredo Lil, owned by Yasou Stable Trust and bred by Farnsworth Farms and Locust Valley Corp.

Other awards recipients included Winston Thompson, winner of the Eli Chiat Jockey Award; John Rigattieri, winner of the Gerry Sullivan Trainer Award; Glen Kozak and Steve Pini, winners of the Lou Smith Memorial Award for yearly achievement; and Ron Dandy, winner of the Sam McCracken Memorial Award for lifetime achievement.
