Absentee ballots pass Amendment 4. There will be a recount, but the Amendment will pass. The Amendment allows the people of South Florida to vote to add slots to racetracks and Jai-Alia frontons. Which they are more than expected to do.

McSchell:

This is great news for South Florida!!!! Gosh---it did not look like it was going to happen.

NOW---hopefully we won't lose Mr Plesa (read about his situation in Miami Herald last week) and so many others who have been going north to DEL and more who were going to leave for PHA.

I'm sure it will go forward now and pass. And=---Frank has won his first big victory--this is what he has been counting on all over--and it surely will help make the new Gulfstream that much more beautiful and all the other good stuff for the public and the horsemen.

All the best,

CapperLou

What the hell are you talking about? Instead of dropping in and making banal statements.........as you usually do........why don't you try explaining this one.........

My understanding is there was a glitch in the software, from 12:30PM it was subtracting rather than adding, it could only accept 38000 votes and than reveresed itself. Interesting side bar is that these are the same machines they used 4 years ago. Al Gore is asking for a recount.

I can hear the tinkling of glasse's as Frank and the boys toast each other, Glad his Florida gamble paid off, This will be bigger then any other track because of his plans for the future of Gulfstream. Im so glad for the horseman on this as even I..was not lookng to claim as the purses are so low,The only feasible horse to claim is either a 5 k or a 16k claimers..If they win the first time you get your money back minus expenses. All other races you need to win 2 races to get your money back..This will also bring mores horses to the south floridaa tracks year round, Also hope it keeps out top trainers here..Eddie Plesa is a class guy and it would hurt to see him go.
Im wondering if any MEC bashers are going to say they are happy for Frank..He really is trying to put on a good show for everyone..You guys need to give him a break!

I detest casinos, and abhor slot machines. Personally, I couldn’t think of a more devious way of robbing people of their hard earned money. Besides, there is no requirement that any of the slots proceeds go toward supplementing horse racing purses.

My parents live in Las Vegas, a city that I find repulsive, so yet another glitter dome doesn’t do anything for me, but will interfere with my enjoyment of live horse racing at GP.

Nobody is forcing them to put money in the slots, Just like nobody forces you to bet on the horses,Im sure it will help the horseman.

I'm glad for the slots are there. . . it will do what slots do at other tracks. . and those of us that like big fields and the addition of dump money. . bring on the slots. . .

But, you can put a slot on every corner in America. . .you can put a lottery in every state and even at the toll booths. . .but you can not solve America's problem. . .too debt happy and not enough bottom line management.

Pace Advantage Pals and Gals. . mark my words. . .as we export more jobs and finance our deficits with increased debt all while the social security and health care bomb is ticking. . . we will see a devaulation in our currency. (Remember when Jimmy Carter told us to put our air conditioning at 78 degrees and interest rates were over 20 percent?)

The devaulation will occur because that $264 million a day in foreign investment that supports our deficits will soon shift to a better opportunity, the boom in China.

That's one of the reasons I'm working so hard to master a reliable income from horse racing, because the math of our economy says a big tap out is coming and handicapping may come in very handy.

So much for my digress. . .I guess it's the Bombay Sapphire. . .I really, really hope so.

now.......that's better. But I think the genie is out of the bottle Linrom. Here in Ohio we have a Governor who is against gambling. Yet he loves the Lottery? He has fought slots, casino's of any sort. Yet every Saturday morning you can stand on I-71 from Cleveland and Columbus and watch the tour buses rolling south toward the Indiana/Cincy area where the river boats and Casino's take in 300 million a year. The tour buses are full of seniors, mostly. Some come from Montreal and do tours throughout the south. The Genie is out of the bottle. If your state doesn't have it.........you are just giving away the local money to the state next door. BTW, I love Vegas..........

:D If only the dim-bulb politicos in California would wake up and put slots on track, then racing might return to it's long lost glory in the Golden? State. Not likely as long as the "Cheese Bag Governator" is in office. :D

MEC also got the equivalent of slots in Oklahoma. They're basically electronic pull tab machines. All the bells and whistles of a slot, but you take your receipt to a cashier to get your money. Hope it does some good. Remington Park has dwindled away to almost nothing.

It has certainly done wonders in West Virginia. I was looking at Charlestown the other night and noticed they've got $2500 claimers running that little 6 furlong track for $10,000 purses. Gonna have to rethink my bullring handicapping style.

CT provides some great prices in some very "cappable" races, but the higher purses does not really translate into higher handle. I'll bet management is really frustrated that they can't dump the racing and watch their profits skyrocket.

I think it will help RP, but (as I said elsewhere) only temporarily. They, in effect, ran me (and several others I know) off a few years ago. I went to home wagering, others went to Indian RaceBooks.

I was also one of those 'run off'', and since I can't bet my local track on the internet necause of state laws, I pretty much quit following Remington. A friend and I weny up this season though, and it was like a ghost town. Grass growing in the parking lot during the meet. The main 2nd floor grandstand has been closed for years, but the final indignity was the Trackside Cafe on the south end ground floor, where we used to tip very well to reserve a table with excellent service, has been reduced to a few tables and a buzzer at the counter in the unlikely event you might want to order something. Sad.
