"Commercial for Amendment 4
There is an extremely misleading commercial out there opposing Amendment 4 that I just wanted to bring up and see if anyone else noticed or what you think about it. It's the one where they show the family on the beach and as they're talking about amendment 4, slot machines and neon signs start popping up and eventually cover the whole picture. They say something along the lines of if amendment 4 is passed Florida will be littered with slot machines and we'll become known for something other than our beaches. The whole thing is completely over-exaggerated. If you read the explanation of the amendment which they put on the ballot, the first thing they say is that the amendment "Authorizes Miami-Dade and Broward Counties to hold referenda on whether to authorize slot machines in existing, licensed parimutuel facilities (thoroughbred and harness racing, greyhound racing, and jai alai)..." So unless you are one of those people who enjoys a family trip to the beach that they have in the greyhound racing stadium (please alert me if so), I don't think that allowing Miami-Dade and Broward counties to consider legalizing slot machines in existing gambling places really affects you all that much. If anything it's more income for the state from those who are rich enough to chance their money.

Found this about it

Thanks Tom, that was my guess. They stated at Calder it was to help racing and the school children. Didn't like the last part to much, the way it was put. I think N.H. has done it, and is working out.

What say you Floridians?

I hate it. Never understood why proceeds form slots have to subside purses. Horse racing is a pari-mutuel sport, which means that it should be supporter by wagers and not direct subsidies.

Besides, I oppose all forms of gambling other then poker, black jack and horse racing.

Why do you oppose all other forms of gambling?

Why do you oppose all other forms of gambling?

Because, they are purely games of chance.

We have a similiar proposal in Michigan. Only this one is intended to put the brakes on any future gambling in Mi.
The Indian casinos and the three private casinos in Detroit along with the christian coalition are supporting this.
Did you all catch the last member of this support group? The slippery slope of control proceeds. Don't say I didn't warn you folks.
