You can easily Google the Internet to find sources, reviews, and commentary for these software solutions.

Voice Conference Handicapping And Playing Races With Friends

You can say goodbye to keyboard chats while you are handicapping and wagering.

Voice conferencing is great if you and your buddies have high-speed broadband connections.

For freebie-level service look into Skype. Offers 5-way conferencing. Headsets are recommended to eliminate speaker feedback during conversations.

Search with key word "VOIP" to discover other "voice over Internet protocol" software/service products... some free, some for a fee.

Extra Security For High-Speed Broadband Users

Originally developed to protect surfers from hackers, stalker deviates, identity thieves, and governments in places like China and Bosnia, look into:
TOR ROUTING CLIENT
PRIVOXY
OPENSSL

While these products are not aimed at or recommended for novice PC users, if you worry about avoiding repeated probes from hackers or sucker-entrapment sites (but of course none of you go to porn sites), or you don't want your legally unprotected broadband IP address to trace your use of offshore race/sportsbook shops (but of course none of you gamble illegally), free anonymous surfing is possible. Your broadband IP address is semi-permanent, but wingnuts cannot intrusively hack a PC that they cannot identify after you visit their entrapment site.

What software and hardware (besides headsets) would I need for the skype conferencing stuff? A microphone? anything else?

I'm also thinking of getting some voice recognition stuff to help learn foreign languages.
Can anyone recommend a good product there? Via Voice??

Andicap,

See http://www.skype.com/ and click on Help.

Headset/microphone combo recommended to kill speaker feedback looping during conversations. Such headsets also work with voice recognition software.
