How many tracks use MTP as minutes to post parade?

Other than Gulfstream, Thistledown, Northfield and Tampa all come to mind. Usually at 0 MTP there is 5 to 7 minutes before their off. I call it perp walking after 0 MTP.

Doesn't EVERY harness track do this? Honestly I'm all for this practice.

I'm not sure if Indiana Grand comes on track at 0, but they consistently run a certain number of minutes after 0. I forget the exact number, but it is not a short time. Maybe 8?

I am looking at Fonner on Xpressbet right now. The horses are coming on the track for the 2nd race and the graphic shows MTP 10. The current time there as I watch is about 10 minutes until the published post time of 4:27.

I pretty sure it was a joke, lol

Every track MTP means "minutes to post" literally. In reality, the joke is the P stands for post parade at some tracks.

I call only tell you how it's supposed to work at one track (and it is Minutes to POST TIME there) so here goes:

14 MTP - jockeys called to paddock by Clerk of Scales or Asst. Any not in the paddock by 12 MTP is a $50 fine

11 MTP - Paddock judge calls "riders up" so long as horses are all saddled and ready to go. May be a delay due to unruly horse, equipment problem, etc. PJ can dole out fines if necessary, reports any problem to stewards who may at their discretion scratch any horse.

10 MTP - parade to post. Lead outrider is in charge of keeping order, may allow a horse to leave the PP at the request of the jockey.

2 MTP - here's where it can get a bit tricky. The horses are supposed to line up and walk to the gate at this point. The lead outrider will slowly start the walk towards the gate at this point UNLESS directed otherwise by the stewards.

0 MTP - begins the load, again unless directed otherwise by the stewards. You will occasionally see the horses walking in a circle behind the gate, this means the lead outrider and starter have been directed to delay the start by the stewards.

Granted I know this doesn't apply to GP or LRL as they rarely get out of the paddock by 5 MTP and at GP they are often still in there at 0 MTP. I've never heard of MTP as being "minutes to post parade" but learn something new every day in this game, no?

A few tracks I used to work at had cameras on the teller lines. They would hold the race open until there was only 1 customer at any teller window. Had absolutely nothing to do with anything except getting one more bet in.

Which then meant people went up later and the drag got longer and etc.... At one I got called an idiot for telling one of the mutuels they were just making it worse on themselves.

One track I worked at actively monitored all other racing and set their post times to go off between races. They generally went off on time as well.

However almost without failure after they set their post time some other track would intentionally set their post on top of the one trying to do right by everyone. I don't know 100% it was intentional.. but when the same track keeps setting their post within 30 seconds of yours time after time.... well...

Agreed,,whenever Woodbine guaranteed that a pick 3 4 or 5 would have a maximum total money, they would milk the betting sometimes upwards of 5 to 8 mins. until the total bet was near or exceeding the guaranteed total.....EVERY race was like this

Yes, the have to wait until a track is available to run over top of.
