Does anyone know if they'll accept shippers from Maryland, or other shutdown states?

Of course, fluid times. Just posting what is current. Cuomo is no fan of NYRA last I checked so we'll see.

New York state really needs the money. They won't even shut down the casinos but tell you to keep your gatherings at a minimum. What a joke.

I was kind of surprised by this decision. Earlier today I was discussing with our managing partner what to do with the 2 horses we have in training. We could send them to a farm for a few months to save some money. But he told me both were still in training as usual and racing was going to continue for now. We decided to enter an earlier race than we were originally targeting hoping to get that start in now in case they have to cancel later. Better to run in a less than optimal spot than no spot at all.

AQU track handle down 50% from one month ago...

Track handle will be gone on the 20th as they are following other tracks decisions...No Fans...

Lets see what over all handle does next weekend...

Cuomo announced today that restaurants , gyms, bars etc. will be closed. So if Aqu stays open i'll be surprised.

On another note, Will Rogers downs opened today, with patrons in the stands.
MGM casinos in Vegas shut down. Will there be more casinos to follow?
Who knows?

I’m happy to have racing to be a slight distraction from what’s going on, however I don’t know how long it will last. A lot of people are not working and will not have money to be betting the races.

Down 50%? What are you even talking about.

Handle was down mildly last weekend from the year before ( when SA was closed ) and considerably less than other tracks. Our handle has been strong the whole meet.

Wait, you mean the on-track handle???? You can't be serious?

I know the uninformed like to say nobody goes to Aqueduct, but those that actually do know how busy it actually is, so you are comparing on track from a day with thousands of people there to a day with ZERO people there? It's amazing how much we do on just the Aqueduct races through NYRA Bets ( a figure that only includes betting on Aqueduct races, not other tracks ).

The depths some people will stoop to in an attempt to criticize NYRA are remarkable.

I'm not criticizing NYRA here (or maybe at the most, very mildly criticizing them). NYRA seems to have come the closest of any racetrack operator to being able to run a meet within CDC guidelines (i.e., no crowds of more than 10 people). That's fundamentally good.

As for on-track attendance at Aqueduct, I have seen it for myself in the recent past. It wasn't that there was nobody there- but there weren't very many people there either (and that's despite the fact that the entire operation has been moved into the Clubhouse thus decreasing the size of the plant by about 80 percent). Just a handful.

Andy, ad hominem attacks with no substance are the type of thing that are going to give handicappers and television commentators a bad name.

I am posting substance here. You are pursuing petty grievances.

this is a golden oppy. for racing to make a comeback. it works out perfectly as a venue for gambling where you don,t have to risk getting the virus. aqueduct should do radio ads that say they are the "only game in town".

The best part of the Aqueduct is the resturant on the upper level. The website has dress requirements outlined! I don't know about you guys but I'm sure as hell never wearing nice clothes when I go and visit that track. Just wearing a shirt with a collar has to increase the chance of you getting robbed in the parking lot by at least 4 fold.

Not true. My brother-in-law is a priest...and he has been going to Aqueduct every Saturday for many years without any problem.

edit: I have family members that have lived in the area for close to 20 years.
Its not the safest area to begin with and only got worse when that casino opened.

I went to Hollywood Park on Friday nights for many years. Plus played poker there. I heard all sorts of stuff about how terrible the neighborhood was. Nothing ever happened.

Look, if you handle lots of money at any gambling facility, including ritzy ones in Las Vegas, you should watch out. It's not a terrible idea to have the establishment write you a check for big wins (they will do it). High rolling casino gamblers and poker players should use player's banks.

But other than that commonsense precaution, I see no reason to assume that you are going to get robbed at Aqueduct. You are probably just as likely to get your pocket picked at Saratoga, really.

What Unger did is dangerous at any racetrack, as I said above.

Yeah, i agree, just Fin with ya. Guy deserved some responsibility.

Regarding Aqueduct, it is generally safe during usual hours. Now, if I was there late at night and had $20K+ in cash I'd probably get a security escort.

When I wrote my initial post it was meant to point out the obvious. (I find it absurd they're requesting a dress code anywhere under that roof)

By all means, not everyone has to agree with me. Nevertheless, count me in the camp that rolls their eyes at the simple thought of wearing one of my nice shirts with a collar to a breakfast buffet at the Big A. Yes, my "four fold" comment was a bit tongue and cheek, but it not such a supreme over extention of a possible reality.

This is a place that just had security guards robbed of $270,000 in cash at the end of the night bc they were un-armed.

Do you think anyone is looking out for you? as you leave with pockets full of cash? Well, call your friends and family and bring your kids to see the horsies. I'm just not sure it's fair to say "come on, man" or ask for data. To each their own.

You obviously didn't read what I wrote, as you're missing the whole moral of my post that you quoted.

Why don't you wear a bathing suit to a funeral? your friend is getting married, do you sport your chicago bulls jersey to the wedding? if you went to mcdonalds, would you find it odd if they required you to wear a bow tie to buy a breakfast burrito?

Inside job? how many places do you visit where the employees are more dangerous than the guests? I can't even reply to you without leaving my palm on my forhead.

My message was fairly clear after my last post that you quoted. I'm going to leave it at that

About as clear as mud Michael.

You don't want AQU to have a dress code because people who aren't dressed like slobs there have a tendency to get robbed? Then you post two YouTubes that are five years old. And the "inside job" story has nothing to do with dressed-up patrons getting robbed.

And what is a forhead?

I was shocked they were even trying.

A backstretch worker getting sick was inevitable. At that point you have to just throw up your hands and do the bare minimum of caring for the horses while some owners ship out to farms.

I'm involved with 2 horses. One is being shipped out to a farm, but the trainer wants to keep working with the other against my better judgement. (but I'm not managing partner).

The backstretch worker in question was at Belmont. He never made it to Aqueduct.

They had him and his roomate in quarantine since last Friday...when he started showing symptoms...apparently, the positive test was confirmed today....
