That is pathetic. I love the guy in the article..."He got sick."

Give me a freaking break, he's an idiot. If you have 47 million, what the hell are you gambling for anyway? Million number 48?

I just saw a news headline the other day that Trump Hotels and Casinos said they felt they could avoid bankruptcy. I guess they found a way to get their money owed from Cecil.

I suspect the general public would be shocked if they knew how many of these guys gamble. Almost all gamblers I know have several things in common: most were athletes in their younger days, and most are intensely competitive. We only hear about the Roses, Albert Belles and Fielders of the world; the ones who were caught.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure if I had anywhere near 40 million, I wouldn't gamble either.

Look at Mike Tyson, $300 million earned in the ring and now he's deep in debt also. Idiots!

Except Tyson didn't gamble.. He ran into a much uglier vice - Don King.

M.C. Hammer? I witnessed his entourage arrive at Beulah Park one time. Beulah puts on concerts sometimes, in the off season. Which is the summer for Beulah. Anyway........16 Limos and about 40 people pile out and they are all dressed to the 9's. He is walking around with about 10 beautiful women and he is handing out money like it is candy. I read somewhere he lost over 40 million. "Can't Touch This!" when you file bankruptcy

What gets me is when you hear of athletes with lots of $$ losing millions in "bad investments." Investments for what? They have their nut and should me able to live off the interest. Amazing.

I would think the "investments" in most cases are a attempt to avoid the IRS to the best of one's ability.

Now this is JMHO,

How many of these athletes align themselves with the wrong people? Agents, lawyers, accountants, managers, personal entourage etc.

All of these people under the employ of the "rich" athlete get theirs & in the end in quite a few cases that's where the athlete gets it - in the end!!

I saw Hammer bet 100 thousand on Lite Lite against Meadow Star at Belmont, I believe he owned her....Great race but a losing bet.

Also Mickey Rivers was a big racetrack guy

I thought he won that bet. I heard he bet Carl Icahn $150K on Lite Light vs Meadow Star. Meadow Star was the champion 2YO filly but as a 3YO, I thought Lite Light got the best of her.

Maybe he bet Icahn also. The bet I saw was at the window and I think it was the 2nd time they raced each other. Star won the first two and Lite Light won the third...if my memory is correct
Great calls by Durkin in those matchups
