This one has the word scab written all over it.
Shame on Suffolk Downs management.
This is clearly a shortsighted move that won't benefit the cooperative
now, nor Suffolk Downs when they have to deal with their
own simulcast negotiations with the MAC tracks.

By breaking away from the Mid-Atlantic Cooperative
not only could we see a domino effect that spells demise
of the MAC but it also hints at how much the simulcast sites must be hurting.

From a fans standpoint I don't like it.
The Mid-Atlantic Cooperative was a good idea under the assumption that if they all stood united,
those tracks would have leverage in negotiations with the NYRAs
and the Magnas of the racing world.
This move by Suffolk Downs only whets
the TVG monster's appetite. In the end they're going to dictate
which tracks they want to feature.
This will be to the detriment of mid and lower level tracks.
In other words the rich will get richer.

Another way to look at things is that Marty Leiberman was misdirecting the cooperative into a very fan un-friendly situation for no good reasons and perhaps bad personal reasons. To have cost the racetracks revenue, forced fans to find new ( and perhaps permanent ) betting outlets and also badly inconvenienced and punished fans over such minor issues was short sighted at best and very ill-conceived at worst. Also, don't forget, the deal will be LOWERING the fee Suffolk pays for the NYRA signal come January 1st.

Suffolk is perhaps acting in their fans best best interests, their own and the best interests of the cooperative that were perhaps foolishly painted into a corner.

One man's scab is another man's clear thinker.
