Top two political headlines at the moment on Yahoo (both from AP News)...nice contrast in headlines....one's all warm and fuzzy, and the other is cold and hard

Bush rhetoric becoming more agressive (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041011/ap_on_el_pr/bush&cid=694&ncid=716)
Kerry vows to fight for the middle class (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041011/ap_on_el_pr/kerry&cid=694&ncid=716)

Pa,
Which is cold and hard and which is warm and fuzzy?
Or in other words, I think you may be getting a bit sensitive here.

snipped from the drudgereport.com:

"ABCNEWS POLITICAL DIRECTOR MEMO SPARKS CONTROVERSY: BOTH SIDES NOT 'EQUALLY ACCOUNTABLE'

**Exclusive**

An internal memo written by ABCNEWS Political Director Mark Halperin admonishes ABC staff: During coverage of Democrat Kerry and Republican Bush not to "reflexively and artificially hold both sides 'equally' accountable."

The controversial internal memo obtained by DRUDGE, captures Halperin stating how "Kerry distorts, takes out of context, and mistakes all the time, but these are not central to his efforts to win."

But Halperin claims that Bush is hoping to "win the election by destroying Senator Kerry at least partly through distortions."

"The current Bush attacks on Kerry involve distortions and taking things out of context in a way that goes beyond what Kerry has done," Halperin writes.

Halperin's claim that ABCNEWS will not "reflexively and artificially hold both sides 'equally' accountable" set off sparks in St. Louis where media players gathered to cover the second presidential debate.

Halperin states the responsibilities of the ABCNEWS staff have "become quite grave."

In August, Halperin declared online: "This is now John Kerry's contest to lose."

Halperin Memo Dated Friday October 8, 2004

It goes without saying that the stakes are getting very high for the country and the campaigns - and our responsibilities become quite grave

I do not want to set off (sp?) and endless colloquy that none of us have time for today - nor do I want to stifle one. Please respond if you feel you can advance the discussion.

The New York Times (Nagourney/Stevenson) and Howard Fineman on the web both make the same point today: the current Bush attacks on Kerry involve distortions and taking things out of context in a way that goes beyond what Kerry has done.

Kerry distorts, takes out of context, and mistakes all the time, but these are not central to his efforts to win.

We have a responsibility to hold both sides accountable to the public interest, but that doesn't mean we reflexively and artificially hold both sides "equally" accountable when the facts don't warrant that.

I'm sure many of you have this week felt the stepped up Bush efforts to complain about our coverage. This is all part of their efforts to get away with as much as possible with the stepped up, renewed efforts to win the election by destroying Senator Kerry at least partly through distortions.

It's up to Kerry to defend himself, of course. But as one of the few news organizations with the skill and strength to help voters evaluate what the candidates are saying to serve the public interest. Now is the time for all of us to step up and do that right.

PA, I've know that journalist were the DemLibs' whores for quite some time but my they have gotten blantant and bold don't you think?

What I can't understand is these guys hate Bush so much and claimed he has done such a horrible job yet he an Kerry are in a pretty much dead heat. You would think that if he were so bad Kerry would be leading by 8-15 points. I don't get it.

JM

PS. I bet you won't read or hear this story at any main stream news outlets either.

Naturally, the words RHETORIC and AGRESSIVE are quite cold and harsh....while "fight for the middle class" is all warm and fuzzy.

How exactly has Mr. Kerry fought for the middle class while in Congress? All he is doing right now is using RHETORIC as well.

If John Kerry had any sort of record to go on with his many years as a Senator, then I'm sure the headline would have read something like this:

"Kerry says he'll fight for the middle class much like he's done while in Congress", but alas, he can't say this, can he?

Kerry looked into the camera Friday night and promised he would not tax anyone under $200 thousand a year. His campaign has already flip flopped on that one a said over the weekend that the figure was closer to $100 thousand actually.
Read my lips......NO MORE KERRY!
What a piece of work.

LOL .... 100K is zero in NYC. YOu know that. Yes, I don't think
200K Taxing is OK but wtf .... there are lots of ways to protect
your $$ ... so I don't think Kerry's plan will work, unless ......
but I think you miss the issue ... Bush spends YOUR MONEY like
a sailor in NYC on a weekend pass. But it's OUR MONEY.

Actually, if you are single and make 85,000 you will get nailed in Kerry's tax plan.

Maybe Senator Kerry will say?...I fought for the middle class before I decided to not fight for them But now I will fight for them again...maybe....

Me ....personally I will say - I voted for Kerry before I voted against him on election day! ....Right now for me it comes down to one thing I rather have a prez that will protect us than one that is wishy washy about it.
