Unfortunately, :3: Markhan is an obvious heavy-favorite, and is a strong one. He seems certain to win failing unforeseen health issues, a missed-jump, or being held 20 lengths off a slow pace...
You never know, but :3: Markhan could prove one of the better Steeplechase runners at the meet...
OVERLAYS:
There are two interesting prices;
:4: Repeat Repeat
and
:8: Cite
Neither are in good form. Both should love the lesser number of fences at Saratoga, they may be 1-2 in the early pace scenario.
UNDERLAYS:
:6: Whitman's Poetry is a little bit of a trap horse. Not a winner, but usually runs a good race, failed last year but has continued on (unfortunately, has always had good fundamentals, and is 8yo so not a TON of improvement expected). You still must respect the top trainer. He could win here by improvement, or by default. I wouldn't 'Lay' money against this horse.
Plan = PASS. Keep watching all the replays of the Steeplechase, and you will find a better opportunity. These are great race-watcher's opportunities. You are going to have to learn some new things, and you may find that Steeplechase is simply outside of your circle-of-competence, but should you find true competence, these races occasionally have uninformed money.
What to watch if you need an action bet, or just interested = medium Exacta :3: over the :4::8: and small doubles :4::8: over R2... You want to try to use the overlayed :4::8: horses to beat the underlayed horse :6: ...
