LOL :)

Tom,

He must have been preaching his religion back then and we never noticed it. Look at these other lines in 'Moon Shadow:

-----------------------------
And if I ever lose my hands, lose my plough, lose my land,
Oh if I ever lose my hands, oh if.... I won’t have to work no more.
And if I ever lose my eyes, if my colours all run dry,
Yes if I ever lose my eyes, oh if.... I won’t have to cry no more.

And if I ever lose my legs, I won’t moan, and I won’t beg,
Yes if I ever lose my legs, oh if.... I won’t have to walk no more.
And if I ever lose my mouth, all my teeth, north and south,
Yes if I ever lose my mouth, oh if.... I won’t have to talk.
----------------------------

A great religion isn't it? Worrying about some guy in a turbin and a huge sword following you around all the time and keeping you in line.

Who wants to sign up?

LOL Too!

His songs are so easy, you can sing them 'yusef'

Take it away 'Cat Yusef':

"And if I ever lose my hand, they must have caught me stealing bread"

"And if I ever lose my eye, they caught me with a naughty book"

"And if I ever lose my tounge, they heard me speaking heresy".

"And if I ever lose my head, they caught me helping 'Yankee Pig'".

Cat Yousf sings:

"Car Bomb exploded, like the first Car Bomb
Destroys the checkpoint, no one can pass
Self Emolation is our new weapon
Taking our self out to blow-up their ass"

Do you remember 'Morning Has Broken?':

"Morning has broken, on the old desert
Just me and my camel, need to wash my hair
Praise for my harem, praise for my goat herd
Praise for the royalty check, that came in the mail."

:)

I wouldn't worry about it. You remember a few years ago 'Old Cat' was calling for Rushdie to be killed. Real peaceful and loving guy isn't he? His old 'Peace Train' is more like 'The Wreck of the Ol' 97' nowadays.

If he was down here in the South I don't think he'd want to wear his Turban on the 'Wabash Cannonball.'

Tom,

I liked your comment about Yusuf Islam changing his name is like calling yourself Joe Catholic?

Is that like if a guy who was Jewish and he was a lumberjack that he could change his name to Pine Sol?

You guys are bad. Cat/Yusuf denounced the 9-11 attacks then donated all of the proceeds from an album to the victims of the attack. I'm not sure what Cat's record sales are these days, but it was a nice, and I believe sincere, gesture.

He was also in favor of the murder of Salman Rushdie for his book that portrayed islam in a negative light.

Not that that is Boy Scout material or anything - it isn't - but I was referring more to more recent actions/behaviors on his part in light of his recent deportation.

I hadn't heard about Yusef's generosity after 9/11. In fact, I hadn't heard much at all about him since his Solmon Rushdie and related commentary back in the 1989 to early 90's time frame.
Hopefully he's a friendly 'Cat' again in his new life (does Cat Stevens get 9 lives too?).
