It was announced that this Derby had the highest TV rating in almost the last 30 years. That'd usually be a good sign showing interest in the sport & race, but I'm worried that all those extra eyes were involved in a NASCAR like situation waiting to see if there'd be any carnage. Probably the case that even bad publicity drives more interest, but I wonder if that increased viewership actually puts the sport on thinner ice. Especially in a year without a standout horse or particularly compelling story, so seems like there was only one thing bringing those extra eyes to the TV.
