Omaha Beach will be scratched from the Kentucky Derby owing to an entrapped epiglottis, trainer Richard Mandella said Wednesday.

"He was coughing, which made us suspicious, and we scoped him," Mandella said Wednesday night.

"It's not anything we can fix to have him run on Saturday, so we're going to have to scratch him."

Alysheba had one of these, but he had it a few weeks before the Derby, so Van Berg was able to get the surgery and run him, and the rest was history.
