NYRA to try Thursdays Twilight racing

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – The New York Racing Association will experiment by conducting twilight racing on Thursdays instead of Fridays at the Belmont Park spring/summer meet that begins April 26.

First post for eight of the 10 Thursdays when racing is conducted will be 3:05 p.m. The exceptions will be May 2 and July 4, the first and last Thursdays of the meet, respectively. Post time for those Thursdays and the other days of the meet is tentatively set for 1:30 p.m.

It helps at Del Mar. Horsemen don't like it because it lengthens the workday. But hopefully this works out for NYRA.

You'd think you'd pick up a decent amount of action from those chasing losses from the day tracks perhaps?

Santa Anita has cancelled the upcoming Thursday cards so this fills the void in late afternoon without losing east coast action. I'd rather it be a noon start or a 5:00 start. If they started at 5 they might get more on- track action.
