On a preliminary basis (under protest now), New Mexico recently selected La Posada del Llano for its 6th racing/slots license. As proposed, the track will include a grandstand that follows the race around the track. The description is below. To see an artist's rendition of the "Moving Grandstand," check out the link below and page down.

"With an emphasis on grand, our racetrack proposal features a groundbreaking, Moving Grandstand that follows the race around the track for the ultimate viewing experience. Never before attempted, the Moving Grandstand will accommodate over 100 fans enjoying the most unique horse race spectating in the world."

I always seem to bet on the slowest horse in the race so the grandstand won't have to move so much.

If they want to save time, I could just take the money they're using to build the moving grandstand and light it on fire, keeping 10% for commission. Feels like a win-win to me.

Will the grandstand track the leaders, or will they slow it down so I can see the horse I bet on :D

Anybody catch the segment of 60 Minutes that aired this past Sunday about train crashes?

Employees with years of Amtrack experience can't keep trains from crashing because of human error.

Does anybody really think racetrack employees ought to be responsible for operating a moving grandstand?

I submit to you the novel idea that racetracks should focus on stuff like giving each of the runners a preliminary vet exam before they head out onto the track, getting the starting gate in the right place, reporting correct runup distances, and timing the races accurately first.

Prove you can do that kind of stuff first before you take on something like this.

Otherwise this could be a train wreck just waiting to happen.

Gulfstream had a moving grandstand a few years back.

So just pondering....if your horse is eased in the stretch, are you physically thrown off the moving grandstand?

Wouldn't it be easier to have the horses race on a big treadmill? :p

This isn't going to distract the horses? How many times have we heard the excuse a horse ducked in during the stretch because the infield TV, or lights or what not. A train full of screaming people for the entire trip will be a-ok?

I believe this is because the riders in the SUV's are the connections with the remote control devices which need to be close to the robot jockeys.

Is it wrong to dream about robot jockeys for the horses one day? I think those of us who spent too much time playing Gallop Racer would be looking to take our robot jockey license out immediately.

Great... now I can scream vulgar obscenities at the jockeys in real time and not wait until they return and dismount.

I wonder how much money was urinated away just on the artist's renditions? What a crock.

An industry that doesn't fund decent timers, security controls on wagers, drug testing or license checks is suddenly going to be rolling in the green to fund an idea as ludicrous as this? Makes Musk's stunt of launching a car into space seem like a good move....:bang:
