Great job to both of you. Lots of info and not a lot of bullshit.
I was wondering since it was not mentioned if you knew the pace from the Houston Ladies Classic?

I haven't got to that yet. They had MASSIVE timing issues all night so a bit behind on that card.

That said, I can say the 1/2 mile was slow compared to final time, 3/4 mile moderate. The raw (before variant) figs:
1/2 101
3/4 115
Fin 120

Hidden Scroll (The Bill Mott MSW winner in race 4) was an interesting topic that you and David discussed. Then you discussed how the track could have changed for the stakes race at a mile later in the card...
In the Pegasus World Cup = I bet Seeking the Soul, underneath, in exactas. However, I'm hesitant to now view him as a 'division leader'. The somewhat against-the-grain closing effort by Seeking the Soul is a bit of a curveball. No one else really closed. I just had that race as really 'top heavy'. Seeking the Soul did no running early, and he beat a fading Accelerate who was chasing and briefly engaging the winner, and not much else.
Interesting how much money Hidden Scroll and Seeking the Soul take next out.

I'm not nearly as high on STS as David, kind of poo pooed him a bit when I first talked about the race. That said, with so little left running he might be the leader by default. I'd expect that won't last but you never know.

He's certainly the most interesting (and maybe Pattern Recognition?) left from the Pegasus after the two headliners retired.
How much did you and Beyer break out (if any) the MSW with Hidden Scroll vs the Fred Hooper with Aztec Sense?
Hidden Scroll 104 Beyer (134.82)
Aztec Sense 94 Beyer (136.22)

The idea that Seeking the Soul will somehow be a player in the major older horse races this year seems ludicrous to me. Even with that division in seeming shambles at this point, I find that highly unlikely,

Based on the above, Beyer did about 4 points but that is a rough guess just eyeballing it. I think the difference in times is about 14 points.
I treated the races totally separately. It was impossible to reconcile using the same variant for both races IMO. I have a much bigger gap than above.

No argument here. Feels totally random at this point given what is left behind. They all have serious holes.

Totally agree....and it's WAY too early to have a real opinion anyway. Horses will come out of the woodwork. How good they are remains to be seen.

Not that I'm anxious to bet against anyone, but I'm going to have a tough time accepting anything with conviction off that track.

Any chance it might arrive on Google Music podcasts?
Any chance it might arrive on Google Music podcasts?
I honestly don't know much about how it is distributed at all. I should know more before next week and will mention it at the end. This week was supposed to be just a test run but they put it live after hearing it.
I know you can find them in these places:
https://www.youtube.com/user/DailyRacingForm
http://video.drf.com/
For listening on my phone (to others, I NEVER listen to myself), I use Castbox app which has all the DRF stuff.
I went to DRF.com to get my cards tonight , saw it right there and listened to the 43 minutes. Very nice show thanks. I'll be a regular.

City of Light had really turned in to a beast.
He turns in a great Malibu in his 3yo finale @ 7/8ths.
His Oaklawn Hdcp @ 9 furlongs was lights out.
He finishes off his 4yo season giant in the BC Dirt Mile.
And smokes them in the Pegasus.
He exits his racing career a monster.

Great job by you and David. Very informative.
I had your 2nd episode on in the background while I looked at the card, my ears picked up when you closed with Violencia.. 7 firsters in field of 9 and everybody sleep walked into Chad Browns horse to the tune of 3/5...all systems GO! ...Looked live on the board.... He was Stalking Violencia and then Violencia lights out...made that horse look weak and stupid by winning lengths....

Been really liking the podcast, listen to it off of Google Podcasts at work. You guys are doing great. Enjoyed the talk about speed figures and would love to see the podcast have those occasional discussions ontop of the race recaps.
Finished recording this week's a little while ago, will post soon. I did get a nice PA mention in there. :)

FOY pace was even hotter than I realized.
Agree with David, that we still don't know for sure how far Code of Honor wants to go yet.
I haven't heard anyone mention yet that Code of Honor was intimidated in the Mucho Man Stakes.
https://i.imgur.com/JGNdwi7.jpg
Heard most people treat his performance as a total mystery.
He was not going to win the Mucho Macho Man, but he lost momentum and was not persevered with much after Jose Ortiz made that strong aggressive move, drawing out his whip and then urging Mihos, who eventually ran down the leader in deep stretch.
A dream trip inside going 1 1/16 at Gulfstream doesn't reveal a lot about a true 2-turn race going 9 or 10 furlongs, but Code of Honor is a handsome horse, and he has been moving forward.

Code of Honor = 118 TFUS
Bourbon War = 115
Vekoma = 115
- Cj - Are you able to share Hidden Scroll's TFUS ?
Seems like it would be high due to the hot pace. Thanks.

Loving the show....had a question about something I heard said by you talking about the Correction.
You mentioned a race not being that great when the race features a tight group of horses at the finish line. I had never heard this before and just wondering what is meant by it? Is it because neither group of front runners or closers won by a decent amount?

I was talking from a speed figure perspective, rarely is a bunched race at the finish fast for the class.

Was a little surprised that bris had the Arkansas Derby on the slow-paced side. Didn't strike me as crawling, but I suppose I was focused on the two stars, and their tactics.
Looked like Smith took the initiative on Omaha Beach, and was happy to trade a little ground loss early for some forward position and the inside late.
Interested to hear you guy's thoughts.

Here are a few that interest me if they are near the morning line price. I'm actually someone that plays live and handicaps as the odds are changing, meaning the offered price (and the direction I think it is going to move) is a huge part of what I'm doing and the decisions I make. I actually don't spend much time on the handicapping part, probably 5 to 10 minutes per race.

In terms of Independence Hall,he does very little for me Derby wise.
His Nashua was bias aided to the max.......it dressed him up but good.
The Jerome didn't have any talent in it to test him.
Everything that IH beat in the Nashua/Jerome that's returned to race has lost.......not much of a flatter there.
In his Tampa race he did the same thing he did in the Jerome,he turned for home and started to look like he was going to need help with the added distance of ground.
He finished those two races on his class.......but he sure doesn't look like a two turn horse.
If there was a Breeders Cup Sprint future on him,I'd play him in a heartbeat.

Awesome to hear you and David discuss some of the big races.
Nadal got a 118 TFUS, but w/out the pace-upgrade it was a '111'?
In most cases that would be indicative of a 'Sprinter', as opposed to a Router.

Good day of racing this Saturday. Have a few pages of watch-listers popping up, so I'm hoping one or two of those spur on a significant opinion.
Saturday is always cool, but Fairgrounds (a focus of the podcast) has a potentially really cool card.

If you can really make a case for going elsewhere than Silver Dust and Hofburg, the Mineshaft could be a gold-Mine. Still a tough race...
You guys mention Cutting Humor. I'll be watching his price. IIRC he worked well recently. Gonna check xbtv again for that to see what I think.
I enjoy the podcast. Following along on the TFUS past performances. Then going to catch the NYRA talking horses... Will need to take Mooch(dog) out for a good walk at that point, or I will be burnt-out from racing before post time lol.
Good luck today.

This was a good one. I foolishly decided to save some money and only play a P4, the "saved" $120 wound up costing me about 14k as the P4 paid $3k, the P5 17k. And obviously the winner of the 7th was one I liked if you listen, was part of my ticket not played. DOH!

They don't make it easy. Even when you have great day there are "what ifs".

Combo effort this week, brief recap then handicap some. Stinky last week, top picks 1 for 5 with winner only 6-5.

Last week was 1-5 with a 9.80 winner, basically treaded water.
2 for 6 this week, one price, one chalk, $20 and change return.

May do one more show before the year ends, we'll see.
Maybe last update since I've started keeping track unless we do one more. I do this mostly for me since it helps me make sure I do the work and don't get lazy. Win, lose or draw I put the effort into the handicapping.
Since I last posted, 5 for 17, 39.40 returned. Since we've come back from hiatus, 10 for 31, 89.70 returned. I'll continue with this, win or lose, whenever we start up again.

seriously, what a breath of fresh air this was to me to actually listen to 2 guys handicap a race that knew what they were talking about. this was truly great to listen to.

Thanks, I appreciate that. We didn't do very well last week, but hopefully that was the one off, been really solid most times.

everyone has good days and bad days, your podcast deals with reality and i suspect will help most people that pay attention to it.
just today i was listening to one of the girls giving out her race picks, she gave out a horse that she claimed was controlling speed. the horse ran 12 times prior to today and was never closer than 5 lengths from the leader in the race, and she is touting that horse as controlling speed.
