i realize there have been previous posts regarding Harvey; that said,
I recently went on Youtube, punched in Harvey's name and went back
roughly 40 years when I first became a fan of racing;

Harvey was an incredible person, who called it like it was
(as best as possible). That statement applied to jockeys, stewards,
NYRA etc.

BTW, there is a real interesting interview with TLG and Harvey
which will give you the giggles.

Happy Holidays!

I can't locate anything regarding Harvey passing? That's because he's still very much with us...NY BRED worded his post poorly (shocker).

Thanks, PA. I was hoping that was the case.

Pack is a very funny guy. I remember a show he had called "Pack at the Track". One of his guests was Nick Zito who had just won his 1st Kentucky Derby. He said, "Nick, now that you've won the big one, if you ever drop dead of a heart attack in some bus station, the next day's headline will read, "Derby winner found dead". Gotta love his sense of humor.

Pack at the Track was over 15 years in the rear view mirror when Nick won the Derby with Strike the Gold. That was likely Thoroughbred Weekly, the dark day show on Sportschannel. Pack at the Track was a radio spot where he recreated race calls.

A truly great interview which brings back a lot of nostalgia and shows the human side of both interviewer and interviewee. Sorry if that ruins your mean guy reputation, Andy. :) ;)

I loved his shows at Siro's. I had so many good times and great laughs thanks to Harvey. I feel fortunate that I was able to go many times . It was a special place. I'm grateful to him and also TLG for the fond memories.

Flipping through old photo's to see what I might have had with Harvey. I found this one...Buddha a former member and moderator at PA with Harvey Pack

Also along the way, I found a great picture of The Chief I took in 2004. In honor of today's Allen Jerkens race at Gulfstream I'm posting that underneath.

Two of New York's racings greatest!

Harvey is an ICON.
No one says horse racing like Harvey.

I remember the old 45 minute show on Sports Channel.
He had guests, like Drew Molica, John Pricci, and many others. Great show.
Really a milestone in the game.

Used to love to sit at Siros and listen to the pre-race banters.

God Bless Harvey Pack! :headbanger:

my favorite pack at the track call was a race in which le prevoyante won a race in new York by the length of the stretch. Harvey tells jockey johnny milano, "hang on johnny. you'll be back taking a shower by the time the rest of this field finishes ".

And isn't it remarkable that in that video, despite being advanced in years, he is still as sharp and as witty as ever...

I am convinced that one area where New York racing completely rules the roost is with respect to the colorful characters that attached themselves to the sport. Decades ago, Damon Runyon used to chronicle these types.

Pack fits comfortably within that long tradition.

apologies, I was thinking about Harvey''s career before he retired.

That said, I purchased his book on Amazon several years ago. Truly
a great read regarding racing community Harvey encountered
in his career.

A friend of mine recently met Harvey on the upper west side of NY. He said he still is funny and gets it. Too bad NYRA never give him a day. As for Andy being mean, IMO,he is one of the nicest people at the track. He will do anything for the player on track.

No better story teller than Harvey Pack. He was the most honest person who told it like it is.
Regardless of his employer he told you when they were good and would slam them when he thought they screwed up. Not like the Laurel and Hardy duos that are around today.
You could be looking at a zombie and they will swear it's the best thing they ever seen.
Sat with Harvey a few times at borgata 3 card tables. Still a quick witted guy. Harvey Pack is and will always be the OG.

Yes I never Met the Harvey in person but the truth was never told like the way god spoke. Of where ever this man went was about above all was his voice.
Will be remembered by no less than himself when he said...
May the Horse be with you.
