I spent the afternoon at GPW. Beautiful 85 degree day. The Paddock area is still very charming. I was told that its moving to the training facility in Boynton Beach in 2019.

Here are some photos. 11/23/2019

Thank God this is the last season of racing at that track. Gulfstream Park is opening December 1st with a new turf course.

it's without a doubt the toughest booth I've ever called from. You have to stand on a couple reams of paper so that you can lean out the window to see them on the turn and turning for home. And being so low when two or three of them are stacked across the track it's really tough to see the outside horses. Also you're a little ways past the finish line so the angle is tricky.

But all that said, the track itself and the paddock are still quite beautiful. I hadn't called for 3 years so it's been fun getting to do it one more time, if only for a few weeks. Great to meet you Fuss!

Same here, but I honestly did not know you were a member here or else I would have mentioned it... That got by me somehow.

It was a great afternoon. The whole racing product is accessible which I like.
I enjoy being right up on it , which is one of the great charms of Saratoga as well.

I enjoy making small talk with people about racing. So of course I made my way to the track cafeteria because if you want to know anything about what's really going on,, this where you learn it.

I’ll be there tomorrow. Seems like it’ll be the last card ever at Calder. Shame.

Enjoy.. I did... its has a fair feel. Bring your own drinks because only a food truck and its $3 a water. I dipped into the Cafeteria and had a steak/cheese with fries for $6 bucks. Where you see the Ambulance parked, the cafeteria is right there.

Some rain in the forecast but 82 degrees. Have fun and hit a few!

Comparing Saratoga to Gulfstream West is a travesty of mega proportions. Saratoga is the way it is by design and G-west is by failure . Zero comparison.

Zip, I only meant in the way you can get up and personal with the horses, jockeys and trainers. Even the paddock is intimate.

I have been to race tracks where you don't even know where the Paddock is! You only see it in on a TV screen and assume its somewhere nearby.

I like to speak to the jockeys and horses. Sometimes I give horses secret codes that make them run better. Sometimes I look them right in the eye and put The Whammy on them so that they don't run well... I have different systems.

Sometimes I tell Jockeys how to ride.. I heckle a bit.. mostly positive and for fun. I like to get a rise or a smile out of Jockey's.

Personally, I enjoy betting Calder. I will be sorry when Gulfstream is all there is in South Florida.

And that doesn't mean I don't like Gulfstream cause I do.

Its rumor.. but its quality rumor from know nothings with big ears,,,

They are moving Gulfstream West to Palm Meadows.. where most of the Gulfstream horses are stabled already....

This is Boynton Beach... about a 90 minute drive to Gulfstream Park in a horse trailer on I-95. 60 minutes in a car. Its 20 minutes north of Boca Raton.

Buildings and Tracks
In the stable area there are 40 barns. Each barn has 36 stalls (12'x12') and each stall floor has rubber mats. Every other stall is lined with rubber on the walls. Each barn has an office with its own private restroom, two tack rooms (12'x12'), a second restroom for staff, provisions for a washer, dryer and ice machine, and a storage loft for light equipment. Connecting the barns with the main track is a system of horse paths designed in such a way that a horse need never walk on pavement to access the track. There are also 20 40-foot wide sand rings for horses to roll in.

Can house 500 backside workers.

For backside employees there are four three-story dorm buildings, each consisting of 52 rooms, eachroom with approximately 240 square feet of living space, air-conditioned or heated, with each room having a bathroom with a shower stall, two beds, storage locker. Each dorm building has a laundry room equipped with three washers and three dryers. In the courtyard border by the dorms are two sand volleyball courts and a patio area with benches and an area for barbeque grills.

It was written into law that there is no racing at Palm Meadows.

The racing at Calder is all done and eventually being replaced with Jai Alai. The two years left doesn't mean races actually have to be run at Calder. From everything I have read and heard Gulfstream Park will have year round racing and just absorb the 2 year contract left with Calder. No way in hell they ever race at Calder ever again.

Here is the story zippy, CDI has tried to de-rail the agreement that the FHBPA has maintained with Calder due to a technicality in the written by laws which is continued racing on-site from the date the gaming law was adopted(2003)and substituting Jai alai for the mandatory 10% slot revenue which gets paid into the purse fund. CDI would harm the horseman to the tune of over 10 million a year. Are there strong arguements on both sides here, yes. Calder wants to rid itself of racing. Jai alai has seen a steady decline wagering and viewing wise since 2008 in the state of Florida, Dania reduced the size of the fronton from 5000 to 500 seats. Calder would also have an advantage revenue wise over Gulfstream Park in the event the state approved the CDI license change.
