first time attending CD next week for the BC.

girlfriend is big into racing and working with horses so it wasn't tough to convince her to go.

any favorite things to do around the track or events/parties taking place that may not be on the BC website? we are arriving thursday night.

all input appreciated!

thanks!

I can recommend several local places to eat that are off the beaten path to most but the food is great. what part of town are you staying in?

Churchill is in a crappy neighborhood. Don’t walk the streets near the track. Uber it, Lyft it etc

Okay I just thought about a few things and I may not see your response before you arrive Louisville. The good thing about our town is everything is within about a 15 to 20 min uber ride at the most and uber is cheap here. Do not get a cab, the rates will triple for BC and from the airport. And Ralph is somewhat correct. The areas north of the track are very sketchy, but south and east are generally okay and if you are in a hotel by the fairgrounds you should be fine.
Now Im a fat guy so let say I know my places to eat. As for night life. Im a fat guy so I don’t go out much, but downtown 4th st live is a happening place and so is anything on Bardstown Rd. ( my favorite is a irish bar called O’Shea’s. I know they have one downtown, but I prefer the Bardstown Rd location.
Now for the places to eat.
Upscale Dining for Supper:
Pat’s Steakhouse one of the best steaks you will eat. http://patssteakhouselouisville.com/menu.htm
Village Anchor really good southern food villageanchor.com
A bit more casual
Mike Linnings not bad seafood and fish sandwich is huge http://www.mikelinnigsrestaurant.com
Selena’s is one of my favorite, southern food with a bit New Orleans selenasrestaurant.com
Real Casual and these are neighborhood places
Checks Café cant beat a greasy burger and bowl of soup http://www.checkscafelouisville.com/
Come Back in for casual Italian http://www.comebackinn.net/
And of course if you want Pizza go to Impellizzeris 5 locations http://impellizzeris.com/new/
The other thing you must do is eat breakfast at Wagner’s Pharmacy. It is directly across the street from the track entrance on 4th st. Quite a bit of history in that place. It is where some scenes from the movie Secretariat was filmed among other films http://wagnerspharmacy.com/
Last but maybe the least important, I have no idea where your seats are at the track, but if they are grandstand seats, CD will allow you to bring in a lunch. Go to Franks Meats and Produce about 2 miles from the track and get a box lunch. Frank is old school and does not have a website but the address is 3342 Preston Hwy, Louisville ky 40213

Good Luck you may not cash a ticket but you will eat good ;)
