At least the weirdo didn't lick him. I'm sure he'll get his. Fighting a guy that never fights and doing so when you don't have to come back on the ice for the rest of the game is pretty chicken shit IMO. He'll get his.

By the way, Wilson deserved every game he got and probably more. He is, apparently, an idiot.

Agree on Marchand. Hopefully his day will come. Mostly agree on Wilson. He did deserve it because in his case these hits are on the increase and doing it pre-season is foolish. Idiot off the ice, disagree. Watched him and met him as a junior player. Seems like a good guy, was a nice respectful kid. Off the ice, not an idiot. On the ice, we agree.

I'll never support hits to the head. But guys who take the puck to the middle of the ice in the offensive zone are going to get hit. Often crushed. It seems the fault often regardless of the hit is now on the hitter and not the hittee. I'm a little troubled with that. You have to keep your head up ESPECIALLY when a player and or idiot like Wilson is on the ice.

Yes, I obviously don't know Wilson personally though I spent a lot of time with him sitting directly behind the Caps penalty box in Dallas last year. :)

The idiot comment is regarding his inability to adapt to the new normal. I have no problem with guys skating with their heads down getting crushed, but there are cleaner ways to do it. I hope he learns some day, he is very important to the team I support.

So the Oilers fired Todd McLellan.
Showing a lack of class, GM Peter Chiarelli let him fly with the team to San Jose then fired him on the morning of the day they were scheduled to play the Sharks.
Ken Hitchcock took the helm that evening. "Hitch" is from Edmonton and has always been well-respected here.
McLellan is an excellent coach.
It is Chiarelli who should have been fired.

I think the Leafs are going to have a bigger problem.
Tavares got something like $11 million.
Matthews and Marner are coming up for renewal.
Oh, the Leafs can afford to pay them that.
Toronto has been sold out forever.
But the Salary Cap will really put "STRESS"on how and if they can keep both of them.
That's why the Leafs have to make a big push to the 'Cup this year.

Before the Nylander deal we were thinking in the $50 million for 6 year area (Laine)
but that now appears a bit low. Winnipeg is near the top of the league in merchandise sales and there is a 10 year wait just to get on the list for season tickets and the owners have deep pockets so I'm not worried monetarily.

Don't get me wrong here as I'm a big Leaf fan also, they remind me of the Jets. The Leafs structured Nylander's contract in a good way by paying him
$17 mil. up front thus making a trade more viable later on if need be.

Just think is a bit high for a 20 goal scorer. We have to worry more about Kyle Conner who led all rookies last year with 30 goals.

His contract possibilities just shot way up.

GO LEAFS GO !!!!! I believe Fox is correct. This is the year to really push for a Cup while you're underpaying Matthews and Marner.

Was Willy overpaid? Yes. He may be the fifth or sixth best player on the Leaf roster. That tells you how deep the Leaf roster is.

I can see Willy being traded this summer. I also see a summer of headaches for GM's though. Younger players are eating up too much of the salary cap. Granted they may be the better players on the team. It is the GM's fault for letting this get out of hand ( not just Dubas). The league has I believe a 50-50 split with the players. How the teams sign and pay players is on the GM and team owner. The list of talented young RFA's this summer is outstanding. I foresee troubles when the contract expires between the players and the league.

IF and it's a huge IF the Leafs win the Cup this year that even increases the worth of Matthews and Marner more. The Cup isn't easy. Ask CJ. His team had lots of letdowns along the way eventually making winning it even more worthwhile last season. It's been since 1967 for the Leafs. Not as many playoff letdowns as the Caps had recently. But 50 years in Toronto is a long effing time. I'm glad Willy is signed. Our team was really good without him and even better with his talents. The Leafs have lost in the first round of the playoffs the last two seasons. So expecting a Cup this season may not be realistic. Even adding to the pressure. Regardless I look forward to it. GO LEAFS GO!!!!

Connor McDavid is the fastest skater in the NHL.
He plays at very high speed, often with players draped all around him.
Every other team in the league tries to hit on him, waterski on him, hook, and do whatever every night.
The NHL has put out the following video explaining why McDavid has received a two game suspension.
When I watched the game live I was surprised that the refs even gave him a penalty as I've seen much worse hits over the year.
Of course McDavid's Edmonton Oilers are out of the playoff race already so perhaps it doesn't matter.
I feel that the fans are getting robbed of watching one of the greatest players in Hockey for the next two games.
Naturally the NHL is justifying the suspension in the video below.

My beloved NY Islanders clinched a playoff spot before Toronto did. Let that sink in a minute. Amazing what good coaching can do for a team. Certainly not the most talented team but to go from worst defensive team to best with essentially the same guys minus your 'superstar' is really amazing.

Pajama Boy may get a bit of revenge tonight at the Coli (TOR wins, they clinch a spot). But then again, maybe not as the boys in Blue & Orange have been surprising all year.

Let's Go Islanders!!!!!!

and if the playoffs started today MYI vrs My Pittsburgh Penguins...Go Pens. and Pens could catcht 2nd place!
Big win for the Pens last nite. Murray stated "they weathered the storm" get it?

Certainly not trying to downplay Gretzky, but it was much different game when he played.

yea "cement head" played and if any one checked 99, He tried to crushed that player. take Kim Clackston of the pens. he checked him. 1 fight went to the box. after the time 2nd fight.....after the time. 3rd fight. :)

The game was different but look at the other great players from that time. Mark Messier was a great player. He has almost 1000 points less. Now if you look at recent great players, guys like Crosby and Ovechkin have very comparable stats to each other.

"Who'da thunk it?"

Tampa 0 - 2
Winnipeg 0-2
Penguins 0-2

The NHL has parity.
On any given night the league's lowest team can beat the best.
In playoffs there are no weak sisters.
Babcock has the Leafs looking dangerous and the Bruins are looking older.
Could be an interesting couple of months ahead.

Cole is great. A living legend. He also represented Newfoundland in the Brier, Canada's curling championship. Too bad he's not being called upon for any playoff games.
Another Maritimer who was very good too was the late Danny Gallivan.
He was a hero of Bob Coles. Bob said "He had a style no one would equal...ever."
Gallivan was famous to using the term "cannonading" in describing the powerful slapshots of players like Bobby and Dennis Hull.

The NHL Player Safety Committee should be looking into the atrocious lack of refereeing in the Boston - Leafs game Saturday night.
I only saw parts of each period, but what I saw convinced me that "anything goes."

Yup, Toronto is the Great White North's Last Hope.
The door is now wide open for any second round team to go right through to the Cup with Tampa Bay and Calgary gone.
Just an unexpected series of results in April.
None of the paid "pundits" predicted that.

what did yinz think of the 5 min pen.?? on the post game show here in vegas it was stated terrible call. but how can the PK unit give up 4 goals in less then 3 mins. and yet tie the game w/ 45sec left?? knight had a chance in ot. now go ahead call the winners of the next round. and what if the caps go down!!!

Tough call. I thought it was a penalty but I don't know about a 5 min. That said, you have a 3-0 lead. You can even give up 2 power play goals at that point and still be in the driver's seat.

Williams should have been in the box and instead gets an assist on the game winner.

Sure, that was an obvious delay of game, no way you can't call that. The Caps caught a break earlier when they did the same on a much closer call and the refs missed it.

No sour grapes from me. Carolina was the better team. I just don't think that kind of play has any place in hockey. When the refs ignore one so obvious they are condoning it.

Agreed. A textbook "slew-foot" and no call. When something is as blatant as that hockey can be infuriating.

Personally I don't think that really was the reason for the loss. Holtby was just ok, let in some softies, and that was the difference this year. Maybe they should have started Copley the first two games to get him fired up! :)

I agree too but the Caps are now out of it and the Islanders had a great year -- with Barry Trotz the common denominator.

Because of this excellent year by the Isles I was cheering for a Caps win now, and advances by the Maple Leafs, so that the fan-talk would be Trotz vs. Caps and the Isles vs. John Taveres.

Would anyone have thought the Isles would sweep in Round One with both the Caps and Leafs losing?

Even smaller upsets like this is why the NHL playoffs are the best, most exciting and unpredictable in all sports.

I now know three things about hockey.

1. It has a puck. There's that.

2. And we, meaning Carolina, have beaten last year's Stanley Cup champions, the Caps.

3. And we, again, meaning Carolina, are up 2-0 against the Islanders. .... Sorry, New York.
