Couldn't have anything to do with the illegals in the fine sovereign state of Kalifornia, could it?

Kalifornia has attracted a permanent underclass with the goal of expanding and solidifying a permanent Dem(onized) voting block. Brown and his horde of comrades must be in a permanent state of orgasm because this is every leftist's political dream. :coffee:

I think it's because they are forced to give red states all those tax dollars...or something like that....

You know...the whole "woe is me" thing. Pay out more than they take in...blah blah blah...all those backwards red states suck in too many fed $$$....That will be part of the blame, anyway. Always is...

People who vote for Democrats are asking this to happen to their states. It's inevitable with crazies making policy.

How are the homeless and poverty rates trending in North Dakota these days?

Ehhemmm....this just in......homeless people of all races tend to head for warmer climates
and places where they may actually be treated with some dignity and compassion.

California is doing, and will continue to do, just fine.
Thanks for your genuine concern, though.

And the highest number of street-turds in all 58 states! :eek:You gents use apparently bogus info.

These five states have seen the most rapid increases in homelessness over the past decade
https://www.salon.com/2018/03/03/these-five-states-have-seen-the-most-rapid-increases-in-homelessness-over-the-past-decade_partner/

Homelessness increased in the U.S. in 2017 for the first time since 2010, and advocates for homeless people are alarmed. Ten city and county governments have declared states of emergency since 2015 in response; meanwhile, Department of Housing and Urban Development head Ben Carson shows ongoing disinterest in supporting local governments’ efforts.

While cities like Los Angeles are facing a well-publicized crisis as they struggle to find long-term solutions, California is surprisingly not even one of the states with the five fastest increases in homelessness, according to a new survey compiled by Credit Loan.

Beyond the division of sheltered versus unsheltered, experts disagree on the best methods of measuring rates of homelessness. The Credit Loan survey uses a point-in-time (PIT) count from HUD data that communities collect from physical outreach to determine how many individuals are literally homeless on a designated day. This data is pulled from PIT count numbers from 2007-2016. Other groups like the Michigan Coalition Against Homelessness prefer to rely on the numbers generated through statewide data systems to measure homelessness in their states.

According to the Credit Loan survey, these are the states that saw the most significant increases and decreases in homelessness over the past 10 years:

Education in red states is even worse.

Actually, that is grossly misleading.

Almost all "rankings" such as you posted utilize macro data which ignore demographics. The only way to accurately compare education results between states with greatly divergent populations is through the use of covariates, measuring educational achievement between states within the same ethnic group.

Which is to say, how do the scores of white kids in a lower-ranking state compare to those of white kids in a high-ranking state? How do the scores of Hispanic kids rank between those two states? African-American kids?

Here's an example of the "high/low ranking" fallacy. It's an old post (2009), but the principle hasn't changed.

No, but over the weekend I'll see if I can find a published study. Other than the link I posted, I don't remember seeing one that weights for demographics. I only came across that linked article a few years ago when I became interested in Simpson's Paradox (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simpson%27s_paradox).

That's probably the libs' plan. They probably figure not too many homeless make it to the polls anyway, which makes the homeless quite expendable.

And besides this, the libs need room to put all the illegals. The downtown slums will suffice for them as nicely as they have for the current homeless residents. :coffee:

This is a glimmer of positivity:

Liberal logic:

“In the memo of the bill, they talk about the reason why they’re passing this bill is to make sure that people who are here illegally can get to and from work,” Kerns said. “It is illegal to hire people in the state of New York or anywhere that are here illegally.

US States By Poverty Rate

Poverty rate and percentages are one way to represent poverty rates, but in terms of total government revenue spent on Welfare, CA is the king.

I honestly believe CA will need to collapse before it gets better. CA will soon offer free HC to some illegal immigrants. Left, right left ... they are marching right of the cliff.

Excellent point. Laws prohibiting hiring of illegals should be vigorously enforced.

Regarding drivers licenses:

My safety being of primary concern...I would prefer all drivers, regardless of status, to be tested and licensed.

If you weren't a complete moron, you'd dig into the data and realize the "poverty rate" is determined by a median basic income factor.

That factor being a median income regardless of where somebody lives.

Anybody that believes a person making $25K in Mississippi is in poverty relative to somebody making $25K in California needs a class in stupid.

Instead of giving these addicts food, treatment and shelter we should give them drugs and alcohol...all they want.

The poverty problem is widespread in this country.

No shortage of drug related problems there too.

I love where I live.

Lincoln, NE. Our house is in order. I contribute and visit our local soup kitchens at least 3 to 4 times a year. I give clothes to our great Salvation Army, and people are really happy where I live.

My property taxes are a bit high, but I know I'm giving when I pay those as well.

Streets are clean, our kids are getting a solid education, and we all take care of each other here. We are Nebraska. It is what we do.

Do you live in California? I have lived here for over 50 years and what was once a garden spot has turned into an unrecognizable toilet. All laws are deemed not to apply to those homeless or those in the country illegally. If a homeless person defecates on a sidewalk they just move along without worry. If I did the same thing I would be arrested for indecent exposure and forced to register as a sex offender. The entire state is nuts and getting worse.

Conservatives are way too fond of doing that. It's those so-called "crappy climates" that, at least seasonally, help to stave off disease and destructive insects and animals...like rats. Sure, there is poverty and homelessness throughout the nation, but where is the threat of the plague, E. coli infections, typhus, tuberculosis, hepatitis A, syphilis, etc. currently more prevalent than in California; more specifically in San Diego, Sonoma and Los Angeles counties?

The diseases have flared as the nation’s homeless population (https://www.hudexchange.info/resources/documents/2018-AHAR-Part-1.pdf) has grown in the past two years: About 553,000 people were homeless at the end of 2018, and nearly one-quarter of homeless people live in California.

Medieval Diseases Are Infecting California’s Homeless (https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2019/03/typhus-tuberculosis-medieval-diseases-spreading-homeless/584380/)

Best States Rankings
https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/rankings

Some states shine in health care. Some soar in education. Some excel in both – or in much more. The Best States ranking of U.S. states draws on thousands of data points to measure how well states are performing for their citizens. In addition to health care and education, the metrics take into account a state’s economy, its roads, bridges, internet and other infrastructure, its public safety, the fiscal stability of state government, and the opportunity it affords its residents.

Once again Red states suck big time. Ranked worse to best

BTW, blue states like California prop up red states

AP FACT CHECK: Blue high-tax states fund red low-tax states
https://www.apnews.com/2f83c72de1bd440d92cdbc0d3b6bc08c

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican leaders have spent months promoting the myth that red low-tax states are subsidizing blue high-tax states because of the deduction for state and local taxes.

An Associated Press Fact Check finds it’s actually the other way around. High-tax, traditionally Democratic states (blue), subsidize low-tax, traditionally Republican states (red) — in a big way.

Republicans are trying to eliminate the deduction as part of the sweeping tax package working its way through Congress. They added back a deduction for up to $10,000 in property taxes, in a concession to Republicans from high-tax states such as New York and New Jersey. California Republicans are pushing to extend the deduction to local income taxes, too.

It is true that taxpayers in high-tax states benefit the most from the deduction. However, these states send far more tax dollars to Washington than residents in low-tax states.

In fact, most high-tax states send more money to Washington than they get back in federal spending. Most low-tax states make a profit from the federal government’s system of taxing and spending.

THE FACTS:

Connecticut residents paid an average of $15,643 per person in federal taxes in 2015, according to a report by the Rockefeller Institute of Government. Massachusetts paid $13,582 per person, New Jersey paid $13,137 and New York paid $12,820.

California residents paid an average of $10,510.

At the other end, Mississippi residents paid an average of $5,740 per person, while West Virginia paid $6,349, Kentucky paid $6,626 and South Carolina paid $6,665.

Low-tax red states also fare better when you take into account federal spending.

Mississippi received $2.13 for every tax dollar the state sent to Washington in 2015, according to the Rockefeller study. West Virginia received $2.07, Kentucky got $1.90 and South Carolina got $1.71.

Meanwhile, New Jersey received 74 cents in federal spending for tax every dollar the state sent to Washington. New York received 81 cents, Connecticut received 82 cents and Massachusetts received 83 cents.

California fared a bit better than other blue states. It received 96 cents for every dollar the state sent to Washington.

On average, states received $1.14 in federal spending for every tax dollar they sent to Washington. That’s why the federal government has a budget deficit.

The red states I posted lead in poverty and shitty standards of living.
As usual PA off topic missises the point of who and how many are truly suffering. Giggling about liberal big cities like immature kindergarten cry-babies.
The overwhelming majority of poor people will not be sleeping on the street or in shelters tonight. Aside from government safety net programs, most individuals have social safety nets in the form of family, friends and community. When bad things happen, we turn to loved ones for support.

In fact, for those falling from housing into homelessness, 72 percent lived with family or friends before turning to shelters. Homelessness is what happens when money runs out, government assistance runs out and social support runs out. To become homeless, a lot must have gone wrong.

Used to be better as was that larger area near Santa Anita....

Want to see a great area? Up behind my alma mater UCLA in Brentwood/Bel Air....That has remained pretty much the same since I matriculated that LONG ago.

What is really making CA unbearable is the rising population. Which in turn is making the daily traffic situation. unbearable. If you have any kind of commute to your job, you can count of spending hours in traffic every day. If you commute from say Riverside into Orange Co. you can count on spending at least 20 hours a week commuting. They also have the highest gas prices in the country.

Then there's the cost of housing, which is another subject.

So while its true that there is no Disneyland in MS, AL or LA, going to Disneyland will cost a family of 4 @ 400.00 dollars a day just to get in the park and the crowds you will face be tremendous; you will stand in line for about 2 hours for any of the major rides.

If you are retired, purchased you home in the early 90's or sooner and don't have to get our in the traffic everyday, your in great shape. But for those that have to work, the whole CA scene just wears on you.

Although it's population GAIN is the slowest in California's history.
https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-population-growth-20190501-story.html
In 2015, California saw a net gain of some 177,000 immigrants moving to the state and 105,000 residents leaving, according to data from the Finance Department. Between July 2017 and July 2018, however, out-migration surged to about 160,000 people.

California’s 2018 population growth was the slowest in state history, new demographic data show — underscoring shifting immigration patterns, declining birthrates and economic strains that are making it harder for some to afford living here.

The state added 186,807 residents last year, bringing the estimated total population to 39,927,315 as of Jan. 1, according to estimates released by the state Department of Finance on Wednesday. The overall growth rate slipped to 0.47% last year from 0.78% in 2017, the slowest since data collection started in 1900, department spokesman H.D. Palmer said.

Births in the state were down by more than 18,000 compared with the previous year.

I don't think anyone really meant to say it is the poverty capital of anywhere just that the homeless problem has gotten so urgent lately an epidemic is nearly guaranteed and nothing seems to be improving. Done massive cleanups in Baltimore and LA.

Baltimore Sun attacked him for his activity!!!

Pissed off that HE showed the whole country what USELESS POS Elijah Cummings really is.

Just shows you how worthless democrats in bug cities are.
The entire House should bee out in the streets in their own districts doing the EXACT SAME THING as this REAL American is doing.

Instead of lying, making up stories, trying to impeach Trump - while totally ignoring their responsibilities as representatives and human beings

DEMOCRATS are WORTHLESS.

DEMOCRATS are WORTHLESS.I'm surprised the media hasn't reported it as a KKK invasion of those homeless camps...what with all those people running around dressed in white from head to toe...

Also surprised they haven't written story after story criticizing the efforts...after all, all those folks walking around homeless camps with hazmat-like suits on...surprised the media isn't calling them "bullies"....making the homeless feel like dirty, diseased people, worthy of a hazmat suit for protection...lol
