I know, it's completely off topic...but I'm trying to reach the broadest audience possible...lol

Not one person has tried to friend me on Steam from this board since I put out that announcement last week.

Which means out of the thousands who come here on a regular basis, not one of you is a PC gamer who is into FPS (or maybe you're just not interested in squading up with me...lmao).

Color me slightly surprised...

My kids play Fortnight.

Last weekend I worked on the Rocket League championship. It was live streamed on Twitch. 59,000 was the highest number of people watched it at any give time. So maybe there were 100,000 viewers over the course of the 4 day event?

egaming is the future of sports. It is growing rapidly and is going to be huge. Think of it as revenge of the nerds in the sports world. You don't need to be an elite athlete anymore to earn money playing sports.

Yeah, the free time thing is always a bitch...and a single game of PUBG could run you a 1/2 hour if you last until late in the match.

I realize most of us are old men in the grand scheme of things, but at least my generation...we grew up on video games (I'm guessing the first generation that can make that claim).

So I'm thinking there must be some on here who are still into it...even if we are "old."

If you are trying to make friends among the elderly...then start handing out some viagra, or bengay. Video game invitations won't cut it.

Rocket League is basically 3D Pong. :D

I don't even play Gallop Racer anymore. Occasional FIFA or NBA2k with my daughter, that is it.

My son would play Fortnite from morning to night if I let him...but he's 10.

By the way... the Rocket League tourney this past weekend had $100,000 in prize money. The winning team took away $32,000.

The kids now have sponsors. I saw Red Bull and Renault on one kid's jersey.

7-11 and State Farm were the other two big sponsors.

Maybe the NCAA will form a new egaming league. It would be great if my kid could earn a scholarship to play Fortnight in college. Although, he might make more money as a pro given the prize money and endorsements.

Tough decision -- go pro or stay in college?

My generation grew up playing ball in the street and across neighbors' lawns. At suppertime our mothers called us instead of texting us.

I played A LOT of Gallop Racer back in the day, in-fact, I brought out the 2001 version of GR and played with it earlier this year. Those were good games with so much potential to become far greater with the newer gaming systems now.

My 16 YO nephew plays Fortnight (or whatever it's called) all the time with his friends, camped in front of a big screen in one of those bungee chairs, headset on, completely oblivious to everything else going on around him. Overhearing his comments about the weapons and tactics (AR ammo, Trump guns?) makes it clear that virtual shooting and live real gun shooting will be around a while longer as acceptable hobbies.

Damn glad I never caught the gaming bug. Gave me more time to squander on the ponies, which of course is far healthier....;)

What other games do you play? I'm waiting for the new Call Of Duty and may also start playing new WoW expansion.

elysiantraveller turned me onto World of Warships...or were you referring to World of Warcraft lol

I used to team with this bunch of guys I met online through another game (Clash Royale believe it or not), but that kinda of petered out, so I'd be willing to try basically any multiplayer game...I like FPS but I'm also liking World of Warships which isn't exactly a FPS...

My UT 2004 character's name (and on a bunch of other games too) was Tale_of_Ekati.

I still play Half Life 2 and re-run through first 3 COD games every once in a while. And single player Unreal Tournament 2004. But I pretty much stopped playing when my kids were born. FPS were always my thing though. I bet I've missed some good ones between now and COD Modern Warefare ten years ago.

What is PUBG?

I'm with you PA in terms of first generation video games. I think we are of similar vintage (I'm 49). Mainly Intellivision which had a horse racing game. In high school we played a lot of Nintendo esp RBI Baseball. Nowadays, I only play NHL on my kid's XBox. If they had a good horseracing game I would definitely play it (and maybe my kid would get into the game!).

McKinsey should have come up with that suggestion- forget seeing live racing- its the video games that will attract the next generation. Horse racing needs a really good video game on all platforms!

Started out with Atari 2600 and the Atari line of PCs and all the games that went with that...also had a TI 99/4A...remember that one?

It's basically a 100-player battle royale match.

Never had the TI I don't think, but did have Pong then the 2600 and played it all the time, sports, Adventure and I think Missile Command was on that. Thought Intellivision was a big step up (but the controller sucked!)

Used to love playing pinball and Asteroids & Defender. I could play Asteroids or Defender all day long, on one quarter, if I wanted to. Lost interest when the new games, at the time, were Pacman and Donkey Kong ... did not like those games. 😁
