I have no sound on my laptop;

When I try and open the "volume control" program it says I have to go to "Add Hardware" in control panel and install a mixer device (I dont recall deleting it!).

But when I try to click on "Add hardware" in the Control Panel, nothing happens.

How do I fix this??

:confused:

Look under the Control Panel to see if there is anything under Sounds and Audio then click on the Hardware tab and then click trobbleshoot. See if that identifies any problems.

Thanks,
Did that and got it working. Had to go into the device manager where a driver had not been enabled.
I had disabled a bunch of start-up files in the msconfig command in order to speed up my start up and screwed up my system big-time.
But I found it and "system restore" put everything back to my normal.

But I'm still trying to speed up my start up. I'll have to be more careful with disabling MS system devices.
