First thought is that the :1: has become a colloquial 'wise-guy' horse. ML was a touch high, everybody fell in love with the 10/1 ML but they aren't getting 10/1 - he's as low as 4/1 while I type this and figures to go off perhaps 9/2-6/1 at post.
I'd prefer to exclude a negative value like this.

This distance/configuration is going to favor a horse who can break quickly without using a ton of horse and secure a forward inside position. Who fits that bill??
:2: Nobody Move showed improved tactical/gate speed last time. Castellano is back and they've got nothing to lose here trying for a claim repeat share of $50k and $25 claim tag. Seems like a horse for course that everyone is trying to beat...

:5::6::7: all figure to be close.

The :6: is the most interesting. He's a danger to break to the lead.

:7: Improved with the switch to Amoss/Moss. Figures to contend.

:2: Nobody Move was not a factor, but the :6: carried his weight with a good trip behind cheap speed 3.

:7: Ran 'ok' to get third. Overlooked Turco Bravo closed inside for 2nd.


I just did a win dutch in that race, so was happy to have the 6 @ $13+change. That was the value as he was almost as big a price as the #1 underlay , and Turco Bravo who seemed outclassed.

Was right about the :1: being a 'trap'.

Hindsight = I wish I had played the exacta, but wasn't happy with my depth of opinion, so I stuck to picking the winners.
#2 in race3 = small profit, #6 or #8 moderate profit.

First thought is that the :4: Sicilia Mike is a decent sized underlay. Cool name. He's mildly dangerous to suck-up and trip into 2nd or 3rd...

:3: Come on Cat - Brave effort in an electric pace last time. He was actually well handled by Pennington, it wasn't a MONSTER effort but was solid. Unfortunately he's taking money. I'd want him to be 7/1 and S.Mike 7/2 in a dream 'green-light' scenario...


:2::6: are ultra-obvious takeout pits. No value here. Either could dominate. Both have '?'s.

:8: is the temptation. That last race was better than it looked. The 5 in that race was supposed to clobber them, but the pace never really allowed a breather and a closer nailed that 5 in the stretch.


So I'm looking :3::8: top/bottom :2::3::6::8: for value. considerations, but to be honest they ain't paying me the kind of money I want for 'reaching' for a value number @ 'TOGA. :confused:
If 8 scores, I get the generous double multiple times, and I'm not in love with the 3.

If he was 10/1 where he should be, I'd consider under a tri or exacta...

Logic seemed good, but was 'off track', as the #2 did just fine behind the cheap speed.

$2 to show ticket was 'derailed'

out of bad puns, but the chalky 2 saved my emphasized double in a 'blanket' finish...
Overlooked #1 spiced up the tickets for those who like to do the old Chalk/chaos/chaos play in these top meet's cheaper races :ThmbUp:

Just looking at the free TFUS for R9, there's no real pace/pace setter. Best value seems to be the :2:, a 30-1 long shot who's not run in such tough company yet :D But I like the :6: or :8: for the win. Of the closers I like :1:

:7: is a contender but still vulnerable fave, looks like short odds due to Chad Brown as trainer. 3-1 nah.

Very tempting to try to construct a tri or cheap super and squeeze value out of this.

7th race = Supposed to be against the wide :12:, and with the Rail/Chad Brown:1:, but EVERYONE is going that direction, and there's no value in that...

If I'm tossing :12:, I'm tossing :10: also = in addition to wide-draw he also was close to that soft pace.
I do like the :2: out of that same race as the 10.

I can't bet :1::2: at these prices for the obvious Chad Brown in here.

I like some things about the :5:... Seems to be improving tactical speed. Ortiz is one of the jocks who capitalize with aggressive draw-away speed on the turf.

:8: COUNTY COURT is ultra-obvious on form. He didn't open as a huge fav, and is pretty much co-favored with the :11: in some of the multis.
8's gaps, short-fields faced, inspire little excitement in the drop today at a low price.

:11: has faced good company and comes off a hot pace and fade vs. better. Not crazy about that he was 50-1 and has never really shown a winning race aside from a soft-paced MCLM score.


:5: and :9: are mildly interesting... mainly for connections and riders...

:ThmbUp: :7: Silverwave had a crazy trip in that UN last time at Monmouth... Wide and advancing without a flow on his own. Race held together but he was at worst 2nd or 3rd best and the literal form shows him '5th' so that's usually a good value. Owner doesn't scoff at a G1 UN, but this is one of his Toga horses. This is what you call a stakes prep and he'd like to contend and/or win today.

:ThmbDown: :4: Hello Don Julio looks like a 'trap' to me. That was a good looking pace, and maybe they were just a really strong field, but it was fairly bunched-up for a supposedly mega-hot pace, and he had little to offer after striking the front.
No part of this guy in the 9/2 - 7/1 range.

:1::ThmbUp: Call Provision comes out of that same race as the 4 and once straightened showed a near-brilliant turn of foot, but then hung in the final strides. He has to be respected.

:8: Rocketry :ThmbDown: beat up on some bums @ Bel 2-back, but his price is too low here. He's a solid horse.

:2: Patterson Cross is in that same solid but lacking much value category with the :8:. Grinded into a flow-aided win last time

I've had a couple of placings (be it win or under exotics) nailed in deep stretch, where the rider has eased up.
Always tough to tell if the horse is completely empty and no amount of urging would help. Always like to see the horse 'taken care of' after they've given their all... But some of these have been heartbreakers! Tough to tell, but I don't like when it happens to me :D

speed can hold , due to their not being the final jump at the top of the stretch.

2 is a bit cheap, but should go for it. 5 is classy but not a rocketship...

6 is in sharp form, and slight underlay

1 ran a brave race, but she had to be hard-urged and go through that stress of moving up the rail to force the issue early. Every right to throw in the towel, but she was brave.

:6: broke on the pace 'in-hand', class disparity was glaring as she shadowed the 1 until naturally moving up to even terms. $3.90 don't seem so bad in retrospect.

:5: was a red-herring in that race. She did ultimately go off 4th choice, but not by a large margin. Don't get me wrong, - if we saw her blasting through a strong work with an insane gallop-out at Santa Anita last week or something, she'd be more of a threat, but I think she'd have been 7-1 for the Terranova name in the PPs.

I don't want it to sound like I was making excuses. The horse ended up not being a good pick. In its two previous starts it did not break well, and it certainly was not all that sharp today out of the gate, but he did not break bad


When looking at horses trying turf for the first time. I always look at the mothers side first. The horses breeding definitely indicates he could like turf. He showed some speed. At 24-1 I was willing to take a shot, did not pay off

I was really looing forward to the turf racing today. I was intrigued by a few horses in the 4th. But obviously had to adjust my handicapping with the switch.

I landed on the :7: Rag Top. I really would not be suprised if any of these horses won, especially Rudy's other horse.

I like the way this one is bred for water. I get a class drop. I know the horse has not shown much and that is a concern, especially with Bob Baffert as her original trainer. Betting against Brown here is probably bad idea, But I think I will give both Rodriguez horses a chance here

Nothing suprises me in New York anymore. I gave up when Slew's Brew was 28-1 and they kept Money Multiplier up when it could not have been anymore obvious of a takedown

Love :5: EYE LUV LULU in the 9th, but there's a question of whether he can run back to that race last time when the Servis barn was nuclear... Made a couple efforts in that race into a hot pace.
Looks like ELL will be a co 2nd/3rd choice only slightly behind the Chad Brown in that 9th race...

8th is a short field, and I have no grand ideas.

I really liked the 4s first race at Churchill because I know for a fact it was hard to gain there that day. Great race by the horse. I could not bet her though. Not with everything Ive seen today
