Fares to Las Vegas are cheap from everywhere. Why don't we try and get a group together out there? maybe the weekend after the election so that's behind us.

If I can make it to Saratoga, I think I could make it to Vegas.

And I am only a short flight away.

How about someone in Las Vegas trying to set something up?

Tom,

>>OK, we'll stay at Dave's house.<<

Well, we live just off the Las Vegas strip... by about 450 miles.

But having eaten chowder with you at Saratoga last year, I can tell you that there is certainly a bed to sleep in awaiting you at my house if you care to visit Reno.

For that matter, if any PA members are coming to Reno/Tahoe, please look us up. We can visit Lake Tahoe or Virginia City, eat a little crab and spend some time talking horses. (Or perhaps you'd prefer the $5 lobster tails. <G> - No joke.)

Seriously, Reno has to be the cheapest place in the country to visit. The problem is that you can't get here from there. (Wherever "there" is, you can't get here very easily.)

Note: There may be a short political opinion quiz before we spend the day together, but I am sure you'll do fine. (Just kidding.) (Really.)

Dave Schwartz

Dave, I had more chowder this year, and once again, used waaaay to much Tabasco sauce and once again, it was hot and muggy. Not really chowder weather.

Okay. I've done it. Booked my flight for the evening after the election, November 3rd, staying till the following Monday. I'm hoping by taking action I stir others to do likewise. I hate just talking about a thing and never doing anything about it. Besides, I have a tendency to be impulsive about everything except marraige and betting poker. It is both my greatest strength and greatest weakness as a horse player.

Las Vegas? Phooey. For a 5 hour flight, I'd rather invest a couple extra hours and head over the Atlantic to the casino at Monté Carlo (Monaco) from New York and then afterwards, go to the beach there.

But hey, to each his own. Good luck in LV.

Ralph brings up a good point...during football season, the strip is not very horse racing friendly. During the Saratoga-Delmar meets, when the books are empty compared to football weekends, the strip and off-strip books are very friendly to horseplayers. But on football weekends, it's standing room only.

Perhaps if Betchatoo wouldn't mind sharing where he's staying, I could see if anything is available there?

I know that Bally's(Paris) has a private room holding about 20-30 which they would probably let us use.

MGM has racing in a room completely separated from the Sports Book. Its very nice, fairly large, and much easier to get free drinks than if you are hanging out watching football all day.

I haven't been there in about 3 years, but that is what I remember. Anyone know if it has changed?

I don't mind at all. I'll stay at The Orleans (cause I know I'll be comped). There are other places where that's true (The Rio for one) but I like the Orleans. It has decent rooms, friendly people, good food and reasonable prices. The Rio, however, is a place where we might consider meeting to play horses. The right side of the room can't even see the football games so it is relatively empty even on weekends. Any of the other places to play are also fine with me. Just a short cab ride away.

I haven't been to the Orleans in years. Are there plug ins for laptops?

Don't think so, but I rarely play the horses there (I love their tables and video poker). I prefer going elsewhere to play ponies.

Hopefully others will join us. If not, as long as we have fun (and pick winners) the party will be big enough

No laptops in the Orleans racebook.

Oct 13-16 they have their contest and set up rooms upstairs where you can use laptops.

Not many books allow them anymore...I think MGM, Bellagio, and the Stardust but I could be wrong on all 3.

MGM someitimes is OK with laptops, sometimes not. Mandalay Bay properties are not. Gold Coast is OK and will even provide power for groups. Boulder Station is OK. This changes from time to time.

You guys that live in Vegas should have a nice handle on the various race books. I spent a month there back in the '80s and my fav was the Stardust which was relativly isolated from the noise of the slots. Also as a coffee drinker, Mc Donalds was only a few steps out the side door. Comps which are few for players in the Sports Books could be one deciding factor. Free Racing Forms are a nice perk but not available everywhere. Special room rates could also be a factor if anyone is offering special rates to sport book attendees. A few things to consider.
I won't be attending but would still like to have a rundown on Race Books by those who either live in LV or visit on a regular basis. Thanks ia.

Broadband connections in the rooms would be nice also.

Would someone that lives in Vegas try to put something together for us. This needs to be organized just like Suff organizes Saratoga.

Some priorities
1. Use of laptops
2. Special room rates if se can get a number of people to commit.
3. How many days are we staying, week end or mid week.

I'm sure other have more, lets hear from you.

Do need someone local to check for casinos with outlets for laptops. I have tried calling a couple of places, but the people I've talked to are not very knowledgeable.

Orleans and Gold Coast do offer special rates for horse players. You can check them by going to
http://www.orleanscasino.com/
or
http://www.goldcoastcasino.com/

Hope to see some of you in November

It may not matter since this thread seems to have dried, but since there were no committed people (I should be committed, but that's another thread) except for Dancers Image (who lives there) and I had business considerations, I changed my trip to Vegas to November 10-15. I'm still hoping some of you might be able to make it out there and share your wisdom. At least those of you who are close. How about it Lefty, want to play the horses with a liberal?
