Well if you want to get treated like the bottom of the casino barrel this is the place to go. You have to ask for drink tickets then you have to ask security to send a waitress around. Fancy hotel and I'd recommend I t to my best enemy if I wanted to treat him like shot.

Westgate is the place to go if you are there for racing and sports.

Is the cocktail service your only complaint?

It is the old Hilton I believe, off the strip a bit on Paradise. It is at the end of the monorail so easy to get to if you stay somewhere else.

Las Vegas isn't what it was 20 years ago, they charge for EVERYTHING. Face it casinos are on every corner across the States.

I still have a blast going there but your right, I go there for expensive shows and dinners and not really the gambling.

It is very expensive now.

Yeah, I was there for a seminar and didn't get to play the horses much. The beers are $9 each of you don't have a drink ticket.

When you come to Las Vegas you can't get treated any better then you get treated at any Stations Casino property.
This local casino company that has casinos all over the Las Vegas valley still respects the customer and is not in business to rob their customers.
Stations does not charge for parking or make horse players get drink tickets at any of their locations also Stations has the very best rewards program for their customers.

truthfully, there is no reason for me to go to Nevada to bet on horses or sports. the money that you bet on horses goes right back to the track and whatever rebate they give you these days is nowhere near what you can get from an adw.

as far as sports go, if you are a dope and bet bad numbers those books will let you bet whatever you want. if you only play good numbers they won't take anything from you that is worthwhile to go there for unless you are betting on a Superbowl game or other championship event. the place has changed through the years.

if i ever go back to Las Vegas it would be to see a show or other event, play in a golf tournament or be there for a convention. i will pay the airfare, the room, the food and tip the bell hop and stay out of the casino. Las Vegas doesn't need me and i don't need them.

STAY HOME

Horses by day...poker and sports-betting by night...and the best food that you could ask for...all in the lap of luxury. What more can a gambler ask for? After a lifetime of betting horses in dingy OTBs, and playing poker in restaurant backrooms...this is as close to paradise as I can possibly get.

Fly in with my wife and stay at Caesars Palace, have dinner and see a show or two. You are right and if we are worried about the cost and need free drinks we are in the wrong place.

I should mention Vegas is nicer now. I remember the $1.99 breakfast special in Toucan Hatry's in the Stardust. It was cheap but also ratty. Now Vegas is expensive but also opulent.

Desert Inn was fabulous in the 70's

I found the Ceasers sport book very nice. They offered me tickets for every race bet good for up to a $16 drink. Not a big drinker but had a couple.

Back in the day I loved the Stardust. They always took great care of me.

Nowadays I hang at the Venetian. Really good noodle shop next to the book.

My problem was that they gave out drink tickets but had had poor service for those with drink tickets. I paid the $9.

My son in law found that if he gave the girl 5 bucks each time she brought a beer he never had to look for her.

I spent the racing day at the Encore today...in order to investigate this matter further. I wagered on 7 races, never betting more than $40 on a single race...and the teller offered me a drink ticket every time I bet. When I finally accepted the last offer, and the server was sent to me...the teller told her that I could have all the drink tickets I want. So, I ask: should I investigate this matter further?

Big difference between a $40 bettor and somebody who bets $2...so question probably answered....

I used to go to Vegas all the time but it's not what it used to be. I had not been in a about eight years and decided to go two summers ago before Saratoga opened. I had never stayed downtown so I thought I would give it a shot. I stayed at the Fremont, old hotel but good enough for me.

I had a blast. Played ponies all morning and afternoon, then hit the bars and restaurants within walking distance. Saw great live music and Freemont street had so much going on 24 hours a day.

There were four different casinos within 100 yards and some really cool spots to drink, eat and catch music.

I have stayed in most of the nice hotels, been comped like crazy in the old days, not so much anymore, but I enjoyed my stay downtown a lot more.

My bride and I always go to the California Hotel when we are there to eat some "local grindz" from Hawaii. We really look forward to it.
