Wish they raced on Wednesday. Are they short horses? It can't be money.

I saw some tweets saying they have also cut races on other days and fields are averaging less this meet.

I have not researched it myself but there seems to be a real issue here.

Some have said its the "super" barns who have many horses but also have a mentality for extreme race spacing.

Almost every track in the country is short horses, not a new issue. It's not profitable to breed them anymore so the supply is not meeting demand.

They are running 80k-100k races, hard to believe thats not enough to buy horses and run them.

Horse just sold for more than a million this week at a sale.

Still a big business.

The NYRA calendar hasn't changed this year since it was released.

Not sure why anyone is surprised they aren't racing on many Wednesdays...

I believe it's been a few years since Belmont regularly ran on Wednesday's in the spring. But they seem to be running more eight race cards this year.

Belmont is running on monday the 28th that is why no wed racing this week.

They're running next Monday.
BUT
Taking another Wednesday off next weeek.
AND
Taking the following Wednesday off again the week after that.

They added ONE Monday, but, dropped EVERY WED since mid April through the 1st week in June. ... SIX midweek days.

They planned this last year! It's on the calendar that way.

NYRA seems to be slow to adapt to the increased parimutuel handle since the new tax laws went into effect.

Unlike stronach group, who are capitalizing on it.

NY management is falling behind and their product is too!

I just looked at the Saturday card and it makes me want to puke. I think Belterra has more entrants and they at least race routes on the turf. This 2-3 race a day turf sprint is BS!

It can't be the purse money.
Why can't NYRA fill fields with those purses?
The might want to consider a Monmouth move - Fri-Sat Sun.
Or maybe Sat-Sun only.

half a card today, Thursday

weather says 80/sunny ... thought there was severe weather or something with all the scratches. Guess some of the races had only 5 or 6 to start so I may have felt there were more scratches than there are... not worth looking back over it. Either way light card today. Thursday.

r3- Not much race, but can pray that the public gets silly over the questionable 1/1a Entry, and try to be contrarian.

R6,R7 two races in a row with enough horses to consider playing!! :headbanger: whoop there it is
2 CONSECUTIVE RACES THAT MAY BE BETTABLE
Maybe I'll do a DD or find a trifecta or something

r8 , only 5 horses, dang.

r9 bettable if I'm not picking the 1/1A entry. He looks solid which makes value tough to come by here. If I come up with an alternative, will play a small pick-4 from r6 (picks x picks x chalk x alternative)

Want to see what Andy says on talking horses about the 1/1a in both Race 3 and Race 9...

Did anybody notice they ran a two horse race today at Pimlico. The 1st.
How can this be allowed to happen?

How can this be allowed? It can be allowed because all but two of the original list of starters were left to run.

If there had only been one horse left, the race would have gone off and there would have been a walkover (sans betting of course).

All of this has happened many times before over the history of racing.

Tri pays $35? with the fav off? People must be boxing this stuff... exacta was OK for a short field.

need chalk :4: or the Casse :6: here in race 4...

I don't want the :5:. Tail was swishing badly in the win last time and then they had to lay her off almost a year... If they combined great care with good luck, and she's now sound then she deserves to beat me.

PA,
On what grounds are all the other starters allowed to be scratched?
It makes for a mockery.

It makes for a mockery. On what grounds can you force a horse to run if the trainer meets all the rules regarding scratching (which they obviously did or they wouldn't have been allowed to scratch)?

It's just an unfortunate outcome...there have been 2-horse races before due to scratches...wasn't it an off-the-turf race? Off-the-turfers almost always have tons of scratches as nobody is going to force a horse (especially his connections) to run on the dirt when they don't like the surface.

You've been at this game quite a while...I know you know all this stuff.

Denny - on which grounds? On the grounds of PIM-LI-CO ;)!
Just joking...

Pace is right about the rules, as usual.

I agree that it's kinda funky to run a 2 horse race. 5 horse NY fields are bad enough on takeout... Tough situation for the track to either potentially put a horse at risk or cancel the race entirely(never usually happen without severe weather or crazy event) ...

whooo that was close, great job by Brown and Mr. Abreu to get the 5 back to her original form. Still didn't like how much she was swishing the tail. Sometimes a habit, but not usually when combined with needing a year off...

I saw that on TVG......that is a sign of serious problems.
And a big slap in the face to the customers.

Can you imagine some poor schmuck who was NOT alive in the double?
