I've never seen it advertised, but it looks like the Derby's official time comes from Trakus. All the fractions match to the hundredth which never happens if the beam system is used.

The problem is they also appear to have gotten the margins at the finish from Trakus and they are a freaking mess.

Look at the gap here (the black line) between Solomini and Firenze Fire. It is reported in the chart as 2.5 lengths. It isn't the only one that is wrong, but it is the biggest.

Did they confuse it with boat lengths??????

I checked the final time and it seems fine. I haven't checked fractions yet. That takes a lot more work and with the goofy NBC angles I'm not sure how close I can get.

I noticed not even CDI has their normal feed, its all NBC, I wanted a normal watch of the race.

I found the Churchill feed on my ADW. There you can see all the horses cross the line unlike NBC.

Thank you cj, for all the work you do bringing stuff like this to everyone's attention!

In that photo, Larry looks to be maybe 10 pounds heavier, too!:lol:

Sad that CJ seems to be the ONLY one in the game concerned about getting it right.

If only they gave the race half the attention they give the hats and weird people.

That is Travis. His call is worth a listen.

The more I think about it I suspect Trakus failed so they just borrowed the beam times and put them in their system.

Equibase has fixed the big error, but there are two other pretty big ones that remain unchecked.

Its a full time gig CJ, being a QC for a company of that size. I am sure you are well compensated.

CJ,

Did you notice the "chiclets" during the races?

They were jumping around like Mexican jumping beans!

Must have been all kinds of interference from all those people in the infield?

How do we know if anything is right?

The thing is Trakus isn't the official timer or chart provider for Churchill. The problem is in the official charts. But confusion sets in because the times for the Derby match the times in the Trakus chart exactly. That never happens at tracks that have two systems like Churchill and NYRA tracks. Keeneland is another I believe.

The more I thought about it I suspect Trakus malfunctioned again on a big day, as usual, and merely pirated the times from the beam system into their system for the Derby. On a normal race you're lucky to see one match, let alone every fraction.

And yes, I saw the chicklets. Hard to miss really. That is why I'm sure there were problems.

I watched the replay of the race on Trakus' website and the chicklets aren't jumping around like they were on the Churchill's telecast. Makes you wonder what the hell is going on.

That was a great call by Travis!

After I re-read my post this morning, it sounded kind of dumb - I meant it to mean the old saying, a camera adds 10 pounds.....meaning it added lengths to the race.

Sorry to have implied an insult to either Travis or Larry. Staying up too late feeding my database for the new tracks opening!

Imagine what slips by in the 5th at Will Rogers Downs? :pound::(

A large number of races there are "hand timed" anyway. :)

Pretty impressive! CJ moving mountains. If NASA got their data the same way the racing industry does their rocket to Mars would end up in Hoboken, NJ.
