$100 Derby Challenge 2018

Tom started a thread like this last year for those who wish to place a mythical $100 bet on the Derby only for bragging rights. 098poi won last year hitting a $25 exacta! That would have paid over $4200. There seems to have been a lot of talk on the triple crown board this year and tempers seem to be rising over disagreements on horse so here is your chance to show everyone you are a better Kentucky Derby handicapper than they are.

You can spend the mythical $100 however you wish, but bets are to be made on the Derby only! Tom, hope you don't mind me starting the thread this year, all credit goes to you for a great idea last year.

If betting directly through Churchill Downs than it’s a $1 minimum on KY Derby day BUT there are many casinos in Las Vegas that will gladly take a .10 superfecta bet and I believe the rules were you could bet ANY way you wanted as long as it was on the KY derby. There was nothing specified if it had to be by Churchill or Vegas rules.

Actually Vegas doesn’t book superfecta bets. They all go into the pools and I doubt any “bookie” is going to play around with 20cent supers lmao

There is one casino I like to play at where they let you bet quinellas on ANY race even if the track does not offer quinella wagering at all and they let you bet a tri on any race that’s at least 5 horses and supers on any that’s at least 6 horses regardless if the track even offers the wagers or not. They just figure the payouts with a in house formula ....

The ticket I bet in the contest thread may have been only a .10 base wager but the ticket cost was $96 and that was with me using a single on top and only two horses in the 2nd spot. You got some tickets with more coverage that can easily get to be $300-$400 for a .10 base wager and you think casinos are going to turn that action down lol

Handicapping this Derby was not arduous. Doesn’t mean I got it correct, but two factors suggested this a year to study lite. It won’t be known until late Saturday, but Justify’s races to date suggest he could be another Big Brown; i.e., a horse whose talent towers over the field. His past performances and figures to date are almost exact to BB. Another Big Brown? Either he is or he isn’t. That makes him 50-50 to win, and a generous overlay to use on top.

The other factor is the trend of horses who raced in the previous year’s Breeders Cup to underperform. In the last ten years, six of the Derby trifectas have been completed by horses who didn’t participate in the BC; five of the superfectas, also. Banking on this trend allows me to toss three of the top six horses and five other entrants as well. The bet:
