What kind of exotics are you guys going to be playing and how many tickets will you be holding?

P4 ending with the Derby will be my "big bet" and then play the Oaks/Woodford/Derby P3. Probably play a few tris in the derby but that is about it.

So far, I am toying with an exacta part wheel
Justify/All
Audible/All
Bolt D’Oro/All
Vino Rosso/All
Hofburg/All
Still not sold on Magnum Moon, but I will stick him in somewhere. Not sure where the triple and Superfecta will wind up, but I have time. Won’t know for sure until the draw.

I'll be playing P3-4. Hopefully not the double as that means I'm blown out. Will be swinging for the fences in single races. If I really have a hard on for a horse I'll spread out there too in 3-4. Passes on races will be by if they return less than 5-1.

That's why you wear a cup on Derby day. Getting kicked squarely in the nuts happens!;)

My derby strategy:

Swing for fences super: When I hit the super I want to win big.

The rest is pretty conservative: I'll have something that if my horse comes in will cover me for the day.

Undercard and oaks: this is kinda my Christmas so I have a set amount I'm okay losing and just have fun. We throw a derby party every year and I just try to have fun. I can honestly say I usually break about even or come out ahead.

primarily win and multis

will play some superfectas with two or three keys and one or two groups of long-shots that I like. One of the keys will only be to win and on each ticket, the other key(s) will be in a different slot (2nd,3rd, or 4th) over several tickets.
The long shots will mostly be used in 3rd or 4th this year, but I'll do a smaller group with late run in the 2nd slot.

No. It now has been proven that there are only TWO kinds of people in this world: Those who know how to extrapolate from incomplete data

I'll be focusing on the P5 that ends with the Derby (if they still have that, haven't looked at the menu). If I lose the first leg then the P4...P3...if out then will double up on the drinking. The Oaks/W/KD P3 and O/D DD sounds good too. Probably will enter a contest or two as well.

2 kinds in the world: the kind who will tell you if your shoelace is untied before you fall and break your hip. And the kind who won't, and thinks it's funny when you do fall down.

I always went with 3 kinds of people. The one who see a big snot in your nose and tell everyone but you and laugh at you. The one who lets you know so you can blow your nose. And the one who can only love you like a Mother can and takes out a tissue from her purse and wipes it for you.

I just hope it's fast and firm! I usually do some house cleaning on turf races Derby weekend. I could have just rolled dice last year!

All these tickets people are saying they are going to bet with Justify on top and Mendelssohn left off ..... Going to be a lot of tears being shed when Mendelssohn takes out the lightweight hype train lol !!!

I always enjoy this encounter while working at the track.

Customer: Well if I bet all of them to win then I win right?

Me: You would cash a ticket but you might not win because the cost to bet them all would exceed the value of the winning ticket. If you want to do something like that then just bet the five long shots to win because that is what you are hoping happens by betting them all and you are risking less money.

Customer: Give me two to win on every horse.

I will do what I call a cascading Exacta box. I box my top 3 picks, box my top 4 picks, likely up to my top 6. If my top 3 horses finish 1st and second I cash the Exacta 4 times. This doesn't work if it is a chalky exacta however. The price is 68 times your base wager.

I may dabble with trifectas but I have learned to stay away from the superfecta. I have thrown too much money toward that historically without return.

I like it. I've done that with Tris the last few years, up to 6.
