They hang in there hoping that slots finally get approved. They have come close in the past. With the financial trouble the State is in there is always a possibiity that slots will be approved at the tracks.

I used to enjoy playing Hawthorne, but don't even look at it anymore. CDI killed the Illinois Derby to damage AP's competitor. AP is a great venue, but I don't like their small fields (didn't they run a couple of 2-3 horse field races last year?). Been to Fairmount a few times to bet simulcasting and watch a few live races; old beat up place, but its still a racetrack which is fine by me. Really hate that they tax your winning bets-I vowed never to go back.

Just bought a piece of a 2 y/o filly that may be running later this summer at Arlington. Love that Chicago area traffic:D

This won't happen, but I would like to see AP sold to the owner of Oaklawn-that could be a nice little circuit. With Oaklawns new dates, it would only overlap 1 day w/Arlington, KY derby day. Tear up the poly and put in a surface like KEE. Instant racing machines at Trackside and Illinois racing could come roaring back

I hope slots are finally approved. The purses at Arlington have increased from last year, however, the horsemen are suing to get the recapture reimbursement from the State. It's an up hill battle, but it seems like it's on the uptick compared to other years. I too have a small ownership interest in a 2YO filly for a partnership I've been in for a few years. After the purse account issue is handled I hope a dirt track is in its future.

FP has run that 2 day a week schedule for several years now.

FP has run that 2 day a week schedule for several years now.

They have told the IRB that if they do not get slots or an additional revenue source this year, they may cut racing dates to only 19 days, down from the 41 that are scheduled.

Slots are now in gas stations, restaurants, VFW halls, taverns etc. everywhere in Il. The only thing now that could produce big revenue for the tracks would be table games. The casino lobby would fight the heck out of that. Il. missed the boat when they resisted the casinos coming to Il. in the first place instead of meeting them at the border and forming a partnership. imho
