Any of the news of these 2 getting changing anyone's plays underneath? I like Combatant more. Instilled Regard seems to have not progressed much this year.

There are four in the first 20 spots at this time and five on
the AE list that have one win.
First 20: Solomini
Lone Sailor
Hofburgh
Combatant'
AE list Dream Baby Dream
Restoring Hope
Give me a minute
Pony Up
Machismo
There is no way I would bet a horse to win that has only broken their
maiden. I may play them in a tri or Super.
If they beat me so be it.

Good Luck Everyone.

Instilled Regard fired in two races with fast, contested paces, the Los Al Futurity and the Lecomte. He made little impression in two merry-go-round races, the Risen Star and the Santa Anita Derby.

The Risen Star had a slow pace and he was beaten a couple of lengths. The Santa Anita Derby had a fast, uncontested pace and he was beaten 10 lengths. In the latter, the jockey positioned the colt at the back of the pack. In prior races, Instilled Regard was positioned much closer to the pace usually near the first flight.

The Kentucky Derby should have a fast, contested pace and with better positioning, Instilled Regard should be poised to fire his best shot. He seems to have a pretty solid turn move as he outfooted both McKenzie and Snapper Sinclair in prior races.

There is conflicting info about his stamina. Instilled Regard has tended to do his best running on the turn but labored in the stretch, often switching back to his left lead. At the same time, the horse seemed to improve when stretching out in distance, as he failed twice at short odds in his first two starts which were sprints.

His pedigree is laden with distance, from the Roberto line stallion Arch with a female family deriving from the Phipps Stable, including recent Hall of Fame inductee Heavenly Prize among numerous others (Good Reward, Pure Prize, Dancing Spree, Dancing Forever, Persistently, etc.). However, the broodmare sire, blue-blooded Forestry, was essentially a miler and a source of speed. The latter did sire Preakness winner Shackleford, who also had a stamina-laden bottom side.

Combatant is interesting to me.

He drew wide posts with a short run to the first turn a couple times, and the jockey really had to be patient from the gate (or he would have lost a ton of ground).

Seems like a game horse. Been in the mix, and his Beyers don't exclude him from 3rd or 4th.

I will use both in my exotics but both seems to really have to improve to win.

instilled got away practically last from the rail in the SA derby. toss in some slow fractions and his fate was sealed.

maybe it wasn't as bad as it looked because if it, but he couldn't even get to core beliefs for third and complete the 5 dolla triple

I have to re-watch his races.
Hollendorfer can train. I remember he won that race vs. Principe Guillermo(sp?). I thought he ran well but not top-tier to win. PG didn't change leads or something and didn't really 'pop' whatsoever. PG came into the race with a resume and flexing and looking good in the parade, and then was kinda disappointing other than some post-race excuses.

Then IIRC IG faced Bravazo and friends.

(FK IT just going to open the pps...)

ok here we go

LOS AL FUT - Short field of 5 with only 3 decent horses. Passive, in last early but did a decent job of creeping up to shadow McKinzie approaching the far turn (McKinzie appeared to be 'sitting' at the time, waiting in good position outside of 2 bums). Made a really nice run through the turn to stay on even terms with McKinzie. Looked beaten by a length or so, and then switched to the wrong lead and fouled McKinzie. Then while both horses bobbled home, Solomini came up, but then he also fouled them. How the hell did they place INSTILLED REGARD second when IG is the one who was losing to McKinzie and then switched to the wrong lead and fouled McKinzie before Slowomini could even catch up and foul them again? LOL! Stewards are as bad as NFL refs!

LECOMTE - Castellano was like night and day, putting this horse near the pace at the break, instead of being passive. Bris does the +- thing for the pace, which usually means they broke fairly fast and then rated, kind to E/P like Instilled Regard in this race. TimeformUS has IG in that same general shape, albeit more detailed (118,121,113,116,117). Not surprising for an early Grade-3 prep like the Lecomte, but not a super rough finish. 116TimeformUS in this one. He once again bobbled to his wrong lead in mid stretch, but his next stride or two drifted in to his correct lead.

RISEN STAR - Slow paced, forward-favoring, merry-go-round. BRAVAZO's timeform us looks like 106 107 104 113 116. Very forward favoring slow pace. IG couldn't make a dent. Castellano tried to break well, did ok , close-up 4th, really hustled around the first turn to stick a nose into 3rd. Tried to creep closer approaching the far turn, but IG lugged in just a bit entering the stretch and lost momentum. The pace was also just carrying too well to make a dent.

SAD - Rosario very passive at the break. Trainer-instructions?? hoping to capitalize off a possible duel? Whatever it was, it gave him no chance. Good move prior to the far turn, lugged-in once again upon entering the stretch. Costing a shot at third.

that last 1/4 mile will be the big difference as some of these that ran in losing races were closing very well and fast over the last 8 th of the contest over 1 1/8 and 1 1/ 16 th...and they were just in 80 percent conditioning...:headbanger::cool:

I like Combatant, but not that he will be adding 8lbs, and he should a tired horse, but this is going to be a year of tired hirses so, the weight is the bigger issue..

I do not like Instilled Regard. I do not think he will have any impact on the race at all.

when i look at instilled regard he might hold the key on how much better justy and bolt are to noble indy and himself. and quite possibly solomini going back a lil further

sure, most might already know this. but when instilled raced in the SA he was pounded by 10L for the win finishing 4th. horse also took quite a bit of money.

getting away last in slow fractions is never a good thing but the horse appeared to be a pretty decent horse running in 142's....was the rail that bad?..and even if it wasn't it doesn't look goot for any of these horses as a gage vs one another
