Would be cool to have a thread dedicated to this wager. Not as a place to debate whether it’s a scam or not, but one dedicated to the days card and so forth.

Call me cynical, but I doubt the execs at GP are too concerned with Easter. After all, they will be having live racing on Sunday, the final day of their "championship meet". It wasn't that long ago that the Fair Grounds and one cheap harness track (Liberty?) were the only tracks running on Easter.

Saturday the 31st, on the other hand, is Florida Derby Day, and the crowd, handle and excitement of a $25M Rainbow Six will be mind boggling, assuming the Rainbow Six doesn't get hit in the two live racing days (Thursday and Friday) this week. Should be a nice pad to offset much of the takeout, even with chalky results.

Unfortunately, with the Dubai World Cup earlier in the day, chances are I'll be tapped out by mid-card at Gulfstream....:pout:

They pay out Saturday because by law New York is shut out on Easter. No horse racing, and no betting, but the casinos are still allowed to stay open.

Actually that is the reason they did it Saturday, they’d prefer to pay out the day after the Florida derby to have two big handles. Just as they did Pegasus weekend.

So yes maybe they don’t give a poop it’s Easter but they give a poop that handle would be diminished by the holiday.

I only give a poop because if it carries, it will be a large pool.

The carryover pool on Sunday will be $0 since Saturday is the mandatory payout.

Not me, I can assure you.

The way I look at it, there are 4 more shots at it.

I used to think the Rainbow Six was a sucker bet, but no more. I like it.

Try and win millions in the lottery when there are sixty nine horses running in each leg.

Initial thoughts on races 9-11 on Saturday. Planning on the Carryover to go Mandatory.

First 3 races look tough. Going to spend some money.

Race 9. MSW looks to have 2 solid contenders, the :7: Art Collection made a bid but flatted late, and look at the last work. Trainer change is going to leave some scratching their head and might add to the price. Also looking at the :8: Mr. Discretionary, have some concerns here, most notably 7 tries so far and is still a maiden. I like the claim and the move back to Non-claiming. Also using the :2::3::4::10::11:.

Race #10: Optional Claiming with out one entered for a tag. Think the easy one to spot here is the :8: Outplay. Pletcher and Johnny V are going to attract a lot of attention, and you have to use him but, IMO is a very vulnerable favorite. The 2 horses I like for the upset are the :2: Richard The Great and the :3: Weekend Hideaway. Others to consider are the :5::7::10:.

Race 11: HoneyFox G-3 has a solid field of ten, and what I refer to as a soft single. :6: Grizzel is going to be a price and will be playing strongly. Last two races look substandard but the worst one was on synthetic. Last race had no pace help, but finished strongly. Other one to use is the :10: On leave. Will be using a few others also.

Ah, that makes sense. At first I thought russmeister was confused about geography since GP is in the Sunshine State, but I see the logic of allowing the fans from NY the chance to get their money back they've put into the pot so far....

Down to the Good Friday card now, and with a couple of six horse fields, it's 1-35 that the Rainbow Six carries over into Saturday.

It's sort of a mixed bag when it comes to being a sucker bet. Yes, the payouts are reduced when multiple tickets hit due to the portion of the pool carried over, but - the 20 cent price helps the little fish out (like me), and there seems to be some evidence "the spread" the bigger players use actually bumps up the payouts when chalk rolls all day. I've hit it once this year, and am a couple of hundred in the black on the wager. It helps me weed out some pick 3s or a key bet though, and that's what I like about it.

I'll try to remember to post my selections for it on Saturday, regardless of whether I'm tapped or not.:)

reality check in order, i feel on the pik six craze. i know rags to riches is a nice dream
fact, to have a even money chance to make a pik six winning ticket you would have to bet 15624 combinations, if you had a 20% chance of winning each leg.
it appears a fighting chance of winning the pik six wagers, are the province of people, or group of people with very large bankrolls.

Two things will probably happen.

At least a dozen people/groups will buy an all ticket for every combination (currently, before scratches, a bit over $250k).

TwinSpires Players Pool will spend about $25,000 and miss it.

Who should be favored? Who can run 8 1/2 panels? Can you afford to ALL a 13 horse race?

Even the :13: at a ML of 30/1 (that will certainly rise) has some things to like. Near back-to-back bullet works just being one of them.

Slept in, only made small bets on the last two races from Meydan, saving my bankroll for the impossible Rainbow 6. Kudos to the racing secretary. Would not be shocked if there are a few seven figure potential payouts going into the Florida Derby.

Some tough choices to make with good horses coming off long layoffs or one recent start, maybe being pointed to races at Keeneland or NY. Hmmm. My dream ticket came up to a cool $1800, so we'll play a cheapie instead, and maybe go with more dough in a pick 5, where 4 out of 5 pays. Also maybe take a swing with some pick 3s, and of course a couple of flat bets on the bombs.

For $3.60:

R9: :2::3:
R10: :7:
R11: :2::3::10:
R12: :2::3::4:
R13: :6:
R14: :4:

Note - where I went "deep", with all of three horses, my picks overlap Jay's above. He should be nervous.:)

Noticed that Xpressbet, which normally displays just a 20 cent option on their wagering pad for the pick 6, is accommodating the whales today, with increments up to and including $100, $500, $1000 and $2500. For those with confidence....:D

Good luck to all!

I looked at that #3 in the first leg because of the rider and turf pedigree, but I couldnt get past him coming from a maiden claimer. If the connections thought they had a good one doubt they would run for a tag.

Considering Gulfstream advertised April 1 as the end of their "championship" meet I assumed the Rainbow 6 would be a full payout that day with no carryover, but I was wrong & got suckered into a bad bet (and based on strong pool size I don't think I was the only one). Pretty shifty advertising I think if you're going to call something the end of the meet but just treat it like any other day when all is said & done.

In this regard, anyone know if Santa Anita's "meet-ending" day this Sunday will have a full pool distribution, or will it be business as usual for any carryovers to keep being held over into the following race day?
