“David Ogden Stiers, best known for his role as the arrogant surgeon Major Charles Emerson Winchester III on ‘M*A*S*H,’ died Saturday. He was 75.” Some us will remember him marching a captured North Korean military band around the MASH compound playing Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet.

Watching him on TV today. 75? Wow, been that long.
He was very good in that role. I didn't think Frank Burns could be replaced, but he did a good job.

Funniest one I remember is Klinger talking about his sister, Honoria and he called her Hon-a-rea! :pound:

Maj. Charles Emerson Winchester III (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001773/?ref_=tt_ch) : Pierce! Ignore them, captain. I assume that you'll want to start with some biographical information?
Capt. Tom Greenleigh (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0611976/?ref_=tt_ch) : Well, I really don't have room for that. Just the facts.
Maj. Charles Emerson Winchester III (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001773/?ref_=tt_ch) : Oh, you w- of course. Well, I was born in upper Boston, where my family had lived for five generations...
Capt. B.J. Hunnicut (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0268286/?ref_=tt_ch) : In a modest, 20-room log cabin.
Maj. Charles Emerson Winchester III (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001773/?ref_=tt_ch) : Due to my background and breeding, it was inevitable that I attend the finest schools: Choate, Harvard...
Capt. Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000257/?ref_=tt_ch) : The Massachusetts Institute of Snobbery...

I loved both the movie and the series. Really great writing and the acting was sensational, RIP David.

Charles Emerson Winchester III was better known than Stiers himself.

I always thought he could have been a very good actor if given a juicy role or two.

He was quite accomplished actually. Including a Grammy

His voice work is famous in the biz

When I heard about his death, this was the first thing I thought about. Those plummy New England tones on MASH (even though he was from the midwest).
He will be missed.
