You can't really hold farts, what did they expect him to do? I guess they can hold him responsible if he was found to have downed a gallon of bean soap before boarding.

Perhaps there was fear an ignition source that would destroy to plane. Gases that humans expel isn't that different than others that can be explosive. :)
