now at Delta you can run a state bred $5000 claimer for a $23000 purse. Is there anywhere else run a horse that cheap for that kind of purse?

I think I will buy stock in West Co, they produce syringes and could make a killing in that market.

We have a horse running next Wednesday for 47k. Same condition in January was 40k. EVD offered 27k last summer same race. Enjoying while it last.

Purses were probably set before the boycott, but there's this:

As an aside, Cox's top picks for the Pegasus were, in this order, Stellar Wind, Toast of New York, and Gun Runner.

Purses that high above the claiming price generally don't work out well for the horses.

I would guess party of the increase is not running the big stakes races this year.

if they are going to raise purses that high and eliminate the big stakes races they should also limit the amount of horses one trainer can run in that series of races. otherwise Karl Broberg, Ramirez, Amoss and a couple others will get about 95% of the purse and will do the track no good. by raising the purses without limits will only scare small owners and trainers away.

$6250 is the bottom at OP and they run for a 20K purse. At either track you had better be able to run, even at the lowest levels.

That is not a series, thats all the races, everyday with that kind of purse. As you move up the purses increase.

I have not heard the news of the elimination of the big stakes. Did they cancel the Jackpot?

Yes, announced a while ago, right after they had to cancel a bunch of days due to Hurricane Harvey.

actually that plays out better for the small guy who gets to run for bigger purses everyday. These stake races were full of ship ins and big name trainers.

This money came from eliminating Jackpot day.
It has been wonderful for La. owners/trainers
It was voted on and the jackpotday was eliminated with purse money being distributed across all races. Hopefully it sticks going forward.

It's much appreciated from Louisiana Horsemen and horsewomen.

Purses are better than Fair Grounds, which makes Churchill want to puke, because they are not going to put anything back in. If this sticks next year you will see Fair Grounds looking real slim with the fields
