i listened to the whole video. and the guy was complaining about the times at Gulfstream. i can tell you that he is 100% correct about them. i have a friend that is down on the track hand timing the races and he consistently has a different time for the race than what is published.Seriously, this is an out and out joke to people that bet their money at that track. most people rely on time, and they get the rotten info that they pay for. he tells me there is nothing consistent about the bad information either.

the guy also went into the obvious past posting that is going on. i didn't really learn to much from him on that point. let him tell us where and how its done and we have something.

the things he didn't go into were the big edges that the computer and team players are given to fleece the public. other than that the guy did a good job.

CJ has had threads about the Gulfstream timer and I guess the Stronach group is too arrogant to think it's a problem. Have to really look at the charts in the GP races, to see if a field was strung out or bunched, as the timers there for grass racing have no credibility.

Maloney was specifically pointing out the problem of past posting at the Fair Grounds, but realistically, this problem goes far beyond just the FG. Even if it was 100% legit with late batch money coming in to be processed after the start, the perception is still terrible. I was convinced for years there was a late window open on the Chicago circuit. They even got caught, back in the mid 80s. The race went off, and not one, but numerous windows stayed open. A 30-1 shot went right to the lead. By the turn, some clerks noticed and started betting. The 30-1 went on to win. Back then, on the TV screen one did not see the odds of the leaders. So they make the race official, and post the win payoff of $13.00 and a riot ensues. Local news ended up making it the lead story that day. They interviewed a couple clerks and one guy admitted he bet $300 to win and place on the leader during the race, but gave the money back "because it was the right thing to do".

Past posting probably doesn't happen often, but anyone who thinks it never does is incredibly naive. Maloney is right in that the tote system sucks.

There was a thread about the past posting here on pace advantage back when Maloney documented it.
