This proves beyond a shadow of doubt that Trump's anti-globalist policies are on the right track.:ThmbUp: :coffee:

I know I'm about to ask you an awful lot of you, but try really hard to understand the general, universal principle behind the wisdom of this biblical text:

Prov 25:17
7 Let your foot rarely be in your neighbor's house,
Lest he become weary of you and hate you.
NASB

Now,make applications from the above to all our neighboring nations in the world. If you need help getting started, give me a shout :coffee:

"Extreme"? "Cherry-picked"? How 'bout appropriate for the context of the discussion?

I bet you would think it extreme behavior if your neighbor came over to your house every morning for breakfast. I bet that would even irritate you a wee bit...in short order, too. :coffee:

hey hcap,

Our approval rating is so low all of these countries are sending back their foreign aid in groves. :faint: All Trump has to do is say Europe does not like the USA so we are pulling out of NATO and tell Russia they are free to have the continent all to themselves. Watch how fast our approval ratings go back up in Europe.:jump:

Well, if Karma comes into play, OUR opinion won't matter too much in the near future. With 330 million U.S. citizens, give or take, versus the other 7100 million citizens on the planet, it's not going to be very pleasant when we're the scapegoat for the coming wars, famines, diseases, and deaths. You know, the four horsemen and all.

Being the Top Dog for so long just means there's that much further to fall, and those chickens will becoming home to roost, and we're not gonna have very many friends willing to lend a hand....

Okay.

Glad you posted that. I don't entirely disagree with what the article said but globalism isn't a movement. Like capitalism it's a way of explaining the way things are... neither good or bad.

Free markets are neither good or bad they just are... they always have just been. Markets now are global hence globalism. They will continue to trend because they simply exist. Globalism is the understanding that this is simply the way the world is/works.

To deny that is when you get into trouble. History is littered with examples both recent and past of countries embracing it and other times not. The UK in the 19th century, the United States in the 20th century, and China becoming a remarkable and recent example of what happens when you accept the way things are. Recent examples of countries that haven't are the Soviet Union, Post Meiji Restoration Japan and Nazi Germany. (NO I am not comparing Trump to the Nazis but it was a strong nationalized economy that due to protectionism was effectively bankrupt and facing financial collapse as early as 1941 regardless of the outcome of the war.)

Here is a different take on Globalism as I see it from a conservative source:

Here's the real conservative take on globalism: Globalism is the loss of national sovereignty that is replaced by a one-world government.

It seems common to interpret globalism as internationalism. They aren't, one is an economic term the other is a political term. In fact, capitalist globalism and socialist internationalism are actually diametrically opposed. One is the way things work/are and the other is the way people think things should be.

Globalism just IS and represents the natural trajectory of humanity. A one world government could someday be a by product of globalism but it certainly isn't an agenda and no one would say it is. Those that do are seeing an "ism" on a word and automatically need to decide whether they are for or against it. Globalism first appeared as a term in the United States as an explanation for the world economy and the desire to try and control it in order to preserve America's place at the top... nationalist globalism if you dare! ;)

Tribalism->fuedalism->statism->colonialism->regionalism->globalism.

All were capitalist. The only difference is the market size and scope.

Clocker
01-20-2018, 11:04 PM
It is clear from this thread and many other sources that the term "globalism" has devolved into a meaningless word.

'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean neither more nor less.' In economics, globalism means making business decisions that transcend national boundaries. It has zero to do with the system of government.

The opposite is nationalism, making business decisions based on some criteria as to what is in the "best interests" of the country. That criteria is generally determined by politics, not by economics or the reality of the market.

So even if the prez won fairly, they were not substantially beyond the margin of error. And he dramatically lost the popular vote which he continued to deny. The rent Gallup poll on his international unpopularity is way beyond the margin of error.
