Sure sounds like they might have to cancel due to weather...and it doesn't sound like an easy drive either...take care.

Trainer Doug O'Neil is bringing a string of horses to Oaklawn...is there any way that fans can find out the names of the horses that are stabled there in his name, or any other trainer for that matter...I'm sure the track must have a roster but don't know if the public can be made privy to this info, in general...

Should be sunny in Hot Springs on Friday and Saturday. Rain is predicted for tomorrow, and maybe a little snow tomorrow night, so the track might be sloppy on Friday. A little chilly Saturday, high of 37.

Ivan Fallunovalot running Sunday vs St Joe Bay who ran 4th in the Golden Shaheen behind Mind Your Biscuits. Throw in Recount, Apprehender, Storm Advisory, Rockshaw, Wilbo, and you have the makings of a nice allowance race; actually more like a stakes race

I have an idea for some fun on this thread...Let's have a little contest between us for some handicapping bragging rights:rolleyes:;)

The idea is for any PA member to submit a 3 Race Show Parlay...We will look back on each day's results and send Kudos to each other for our handicapping skills....I know I am probably going to do at least 1 $10 (3) Race Show Parlay because I think Oaklawn will have a lot of large fields...Should be fun...Even it you hit the Parlay with each pay just $4.00 the payout for a $10 bet would be, let's see:

Race A (5) $2 Tickets times $4 = $20
Race B (10) $2 Tickets time $4 = $40
Race C (20) $2 Tickets times $4= $80

So for an initial $10 Wager, you could win $80 if all three come in and pay at least $4 each, not bad, huh...Let's have some fun with this....

I'll post my picks tomorrow after scratch time....hope to see your picks tomorrow as well...!

To answer your question, there is no way that i know of to get the list of horses a trainer has stalls for at a track. I was suggesting that you could generate your own by looking at the workout results for two weeks.

Sonneteer, finally living up to his potential...

I saw Sonneteer at Louisiana Downs back in September at the Super Derby, which was on turf for the first time in its history. Sonneteer is a really nice looking horse. He had just broken his maiden in a MSW turf race at Del Mar in July, so I understand his connections giving the Super Derby a shot. Unfortunately, he was up against Mr. Misunderstood, who is now 8 for 8 on turf after switching from dirt. Sonneteer finished 3rd, four lengths behind Mr. Misunderstood.

I was happy to see him win today.

I noticed at least Bo Peep he missed coming on until really the wire call. I didn't have Bo Peep anyway so...not much to go off on this horse except for Barn is 18% with firsters...easily missed.

I had mixed feelings today...had him mostly in the 2 slot...I liked him early in his career and absolutely hammered him when he ran 4th in a maiden race at Santa Anita...I thought that he just couldn't lose then, but he ended up just plodding along...then he won his maiden at DelMar... Gave him a long consideration today but my memories of that Santa Anita loss caused me to shy away today...Futile #2, kind of surprised me as well...another missed opportunity, Sonneteer-wise  More fun tomorrow...you going to be betting tomorrow, Mulerider...?

I only know that he does well in tournaments so I give his choices a second look when I'm capping the same race.....Vic has tremendous knowledge of the sport in general and is one of the top 10 handicappers in this country.

he used his handicapping talents when he was an agent for Joel Rosario and Matt Garcia. because of his handicapping specialty's he put these jockeys on the map. he got them to a good level and then they both fired him.

its to bad that Vic stopped posting here, he could liven up the place in a new york minute.

The Show Parlay Challenge is a informal contest with no rewards other than what we wager on..

Post three picks from any of the the races at Oaklawn Park...the handicapper who shows the best score wins and receives Kudos from the rest of us for their handicapping skills..

I usually will bet some of our picks along with my own to see if I can pick up a score...

I'm not a Vic fan which is probably why I'm the only one that noticed him completely miss two horse rallying up the rail today.

Vic needs to concentrate on calling the correct horses and spend less time trying be Trevor.

Not sure if I should start a new thread, but I am planning on going out to Oaklawn this April for the Arkansas Derby and my birthday that week.

I've read that box seats only go on sale on race day. Is there any chance I can get box seats for Ark Derby day? I'm going to be driving from the midwest and still need more time to save money for the hotel and other plans out there. How far in advance should I be booking the hotel so I'm reasonably close to the track?

If you have any other recommendations or advice about visiting Oaklawn I would appreciate that as well. Thanks!

most of better lodges are probably already reserved. you can go online and check the hampton and embasy suites for that weekend. you may end up staying on the west side of little rock, about 40 miles from oaklawn..no clue on seating. a friend have a box and i am lucky enough to use it anytime..good luck...

Arlington Hotel and Park Hotels are downtown-Arlington is probably sold out. Best Western is literally right across the street from the track. I usually stay in little Rock and drive over. Arkansas Derby day would probably be better off staying in Hot Springs-I would book now.

I was studying the late pick 5 for Thursday’s races, and the last race is a head scratcher. Does anyone have a strong opinion in regard to this race? The strongest opinion I have is that I want to use :12: Ramblin Fever on the grounds his trainer has the same last name as Jack Lemmon’s charactarer in Grumpy Old Men. Maybe he gets first run on the closers? Hopefully he isn’t a putz come Thursday.

The exacta in the 8th was more than light . The winner paid ~ 34 and the place horse paid ~17 . The $ 1.00 exacta came back ~ $ 109(around $170 or so light). I'll check the others later but I was involved in that race with a play on the # 3.

Interesting weekend coming up. Southwest may get splint into two divisions w/some nice horses being pointed for the race on Monday.

Oaklawn will card two stakes races Feb. 19 – the $500,000 Razorback Handicap (G3) for older horses and the $500,000 Southwest Stakes (G3) for 3-year-olds.

Rera said there are eight early probables for the 1 1/16-mile Razorback: City of Lights, Far Right, Hawaakom, Hoppertunity, J Boys Echo, Leofric, Sonneteer and Untrapped.

City of Lights, Hoppertunity and Sonneteer are based in Southern California, with the latter two already Oaklawn stakes winners.

Hoppertunity won the $600,000 Rebel (G2) for 3-year-olds in 2014 for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert. Hoppertunity has earned $4,347,025 in a 29-race career.

Sonneteer won the $125,000 Fifth Season – Oaklawn’s first of four two-turn stakes races for older horses – Jan. 12 for trainer Keith Desormeaux.

City of Light hasn’t started since winning the $300,000 Malibu Stakes (G1) for 3-year-olds Dec. 26 at Santa Anita for trainer Michael McCarthy.

Hawaakom finished a distant second to eventual Horse of the Year Gun Runner in last year’s Razorback.

Far Right won Oaklawn’s $150,000 Smarty Jones Stakes and $300,000 Southwest Stakes (G3) in 2015 before finishing second to eventual Triple Crown winner American Pharoah in the $1 million Arkansas Derby (G1).

The 1 1/16-mile Southwest is expected to draw a large field, including Grade 1 winner Sporting Chance for Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas. Sporting Chance is the most accomplished 3-year-old on the grounds.

Post positions for the Razorback and Southwest will be drawn Friday.

Saturday 2/17 card is extremely mediocre. Not one allowance race in the pick 5. $30KCLM N3L, $20kCLM N2Y, MSW, stakes race, $10k claimers to close it out. This would be a wednesday card except for the stakes

Yes but those 20-30k claimers would win allowance races at most tracks in the country, with the exception of but a few. And where else are you going to find a MSW with a $78K purse? That's more than a lot of stakes races at most tracks.

I'm at Oaklawn this weekend and didn't bet 1 race there today not sure I have ever done that before. Had the Risen Star winner-a Oaklawn horse💰

Um.....it was 50-cent corned beef sandwich day and 0.10 sodas or something

Non race goers come from all over, because they are quite well known for their delicious CB sandwiches.

A day at the track I AVOID like the plague. :pound:

The sandwiches are worth every dime at full price though.

As soon as it warms up down here a little, a "normal" Saturday will have close to 30K people though. Feb is kinda slow in general

R2 #1 ran 2nd paid $6.60 and $4.40
R8 #4 ran 3rd @14-1 paid $4.60

None of my LS were winners today, Oaklawn is tough w/alll the new horses and shippers.

Adore looked good-nice time as well. Someone from the Asmussen barn(exercise rider) was at the bar across the street from OP and I overheard him say what a nice filly she is (right before the race). Also, Asmussen is shipping a lot of top notch horses to OP in the coming weeks

Sandy, do you use a program that provides pace distribution (early/late rankings) readouts? If so, by applying race shape to the distribution readouts you should be hitting a healthy share of winners at least 2 of the days so far, including a few at nice prices.
As for a good chunk of the other races, beware the T/J connection factor.
I only played OPX opening day and Sunday, but had nice days both times.
Didn't get rich mind you, but it's always nice to come out on the bright side of +.
Good luck to you.

If I remember right, Ramon missed the first few weeks here last year...thinking he’s got his sights set to get the first jump out in the standings...along with Ricardo...

“R squared”...is double-plus good...!

Never looking for Winners, just looking for those well intentioned horses to make up some combinations for Winning plays.

The fun comes later. After the first month last year, 298 out of 353 remaining races were won by horses who's last start was at OP. Another 17 were first time starters. Shippers only accounted for 11% of the wins.

Any idea if this is a fairly common trend at OP? I know last year was ridiculously wet.....that first month or two cleaned my clock.

Ive held my own so far this year but its been a grind.
