I have heard the EXACT opposite. I've also heard spoilers already and am not interested. Will be interesting to see how its received but it seems people who grew up with the original trilogy absolutely hate it.

I just hope it is not regurgitating the original trilogy like "The Force Awakens" did. I want to see something new and unique.

Never saw a single Star Wars movie. When the original came out , the lines were too long for me and after a while , I lost interest in seeing it.
I don't go to see a movie because "everybody else" saw it. Plus I like movies where people talk to people, not some computer generated character.

One thing that Rogue One did was answer that age-old Stars Wars question: Why the hell didn't they just put up a thick piece of steel to protect the vulnerability on the Death Star? Fortunately, we now know :)

Mine was Billy Jack.The best of the Billy Jack movies was Born Losers which came out 2 or 3 years before Billy Jack. Loosely based on a real life incident involving the Hell's Angels the real life hero was not an ex Green Beret but the California cops.

I've caught 15 minutes here and there of several of the movies, and don't see the appeal at all. I thought they all seemed really, really cheesy. Really cheesy. And bad special effects. Really bad special effects. The appeal of Star Wars is one of the big mysteries of life to me.

I saw a list of the most popular movies of all time and got down to number 40 , Jaws, before I came to a movie that was a favorite of mine. I guess I have no taste. (Or the rest of the world doesn't).

Well, Jaws is a pretty good movie, especially the scene where Robert Shaw talks about the U.S.S. Indianapolis, so your taste isn't way out there.

When you look at Star Wars' special effects you really need to put into the context of the mid-70s. By today's standards, they are nothing, but for the time they are really quite brilliant. The level of detail captured in the scale models is really incredible, at least in my opinion. Then to incorporate explosions, etc. Where I think the original SW fails is in the acting. For every Peter Cushing and Alec Guiness, they had a Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher. The Harrison Ford of today is much improved over the young Harrison Ford.

The first Star Wars was released in 1977. My sons were born in 1999. Without any influence at all from me, it quickly became their favorite movie and still is. They have watched all of them many times. At least they will grudgingly admit that Phantom Menace sucks and that the Clone Wars is not very good either.

I liked it as a kid, but as an adult I came to realize that the acting and production values were quite poor. Still, I can never get tired of this scene.

I'll take bad special affects and cheese to CGI. Standing in front of green screen. Alone. Hollywood relies on CGI too much these days. A mindset of well it worked once here, so we have to use it .Then again they rely also on remakes and sequels. I worked all weekend. Going tomorrow 10am. Can't wait.....

I’ve been watching the first one from 1977 on my DVR in bits and pieces. They broadcast it in HD now. It’s funny to look at the details of the ships and the guns etc in HD. The uniforms for the Star Troopers are much more detailed too.

The first round (late 70s?) really fit that era's sci-fi movie climate (for adults as well), and created this sort of fantasy realm(popular for kids/teens at the time) where action-figures came to life.

This latest round seems like it could be entertaining for kids (or very nostalgic die-hard SW fan adults), especially if seen in one of the higher quality theaters with a nice screen and sound system. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the on-screen world, and don't have high expectations for the actors.

When Star Wars first came out, the special effects and sound were way ahead of their time. Now it is just another Sci-Flick.

I can say the same thing about the James Bond series.

But I still like to see the new episodes, even if it takes 3-5 years between them.

I guess time can change a character, but Luke Skywalker just doesn't seem like Luke Skywalker. He was a hopeful, optimistic person in the original trilogy.

In this, he seems untrusting. He doesn't try to teach Kylo Ren to turn away from the dark side in the flashbacks. Yet, Luke was tempted by the dark side in the originals and found a way to resist.

He just forgets all that?

Also, the Finn/Rose scenes on the casino island kind of dragged down the pacing. It made gambling and racing look a little bad as well.

Rey as the main hero is fine. I don't care if the main Jedi is female. I don't care if the movie is more diverse.

But I care about a well-written script and characters I care about.

I care about Rey, but most of the newer people are throwaway characters for me.

Saw it last week. Force Awakens was just a shameless remake of ANH, but it was effective nonetheless, especially in the wake of the horrible prequels.

This film never really engaged me on any level. And it definitely was a downer to see Luke for the first time in 35 years, and have him be such a miserable sourpuss.

I saw it too and agree about Luke. He reminded me of the Clint Eastwood character in Gran Torino. 7 out of 10.

The StarWars franchise has gotten out of hand. The will pass the James Bond series for total films in a couple years. The Game Of Thrones crew is going to do a trilogy.

The new Star Wars films are void of meaningful romance subplots.

In the original trilogy, you could really feel the connection between Han and Leia, even though they were initially bickering with each other.

Disney Star Wars just feels...lifeless. Not enough humanity. It's more about the actual missions, rather than friendship and love.
