It can exist, but not with public money. Most of the more popular shows are sponsored by huge foundations etc. I don’t mind that.....it’s the public money that’s a rip off

Fwiw, I do watch quite a bit of pbs as well as listen to a great deal of npr. Smiley, I haven't watched in quite some time. He played the race card loud in his early days on pbs, turned me completely off. Charlie Rose just seemed smug. Too smug. "I'm better than you knuckle dragging conservatives", he never reached for the middle of the road.

Glad they're gone.

May I suggest that the lack of audience suggested that most thought they were getting little or nothing out of the show?

Tax dollars should not be used for this. Period.
