In recognising Jerusalem as Israel's capital, the US would be reversing its own longstanding policy that the status of the holy city would need to be resolved as part of Middle East peace talks.

Okay. So what's the reason for this?

The decision - which would fulfil a campaign promise and appeal to Mr Trump's right-wing base..

Ah, gotcha.

Okay. So what's the reason for this?

Congress voted overwhelmingly in 1995 to recognize Israel's position that Jerusalem is the capital. That bill also directed the US to move the embassy there.

The bill allowed a president to issue a 6-month delay in compliance, with no limit on the number of times it could be delayed. Every president from Clinton to Obama has regularly issued a delay order every 6 month. Trump is now allowing the law passed by Congress and signed by Clinton to go into effect.

You know you're on the right track when even the Pope is pissed :blush:So the Pope knows better than the Israelis how the Israelis should run their country?

The decision - which would fulfil a campaign promise and appeal to Mr Trump's right-wing base..The decision would also fulfill a campaign promise of the DNC and appeal to the left-wing base:

The past four official Democratic Party platforms have recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The 2016 party platform read, "While Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations, it should remain the capital of Israel, an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths. Israelis deserve security, recognition, and a normal life free from terror and incitement."

Hey Dan...

Your boy Obama campaigned that he would make it happen. So Did Bush and your other boy, Clinton, but none of them had the balls to actually do it.

It also appears to scrap any progress made by Boy Wonder Jared Kushner in "mediating" those talks.

So, was Trump serious about the talks? Was he serious about what he thought Kushner could do, or was he just giving the kid some on the job experience?

How long was Trump's speech, 10 minutes? He starts out speaking clearly and normally, and by the end it's like his dentures have totally come loose.

Is it anxiety?

You just like the Pope because, like most democrats, HE hides child predators.
WE, unlike the Pope, are essential to the survival of Israel - rightfully so.
Maybe this Pope thinks too much and does too little.

I don't think so.

It just shows the Administration doesn't put a priority on it. You wouldn't do this if you were seriously trying to reach some sort of deal. Not saying its good or bad just that this isn't going to be a focus of the Administration in the foreseeable future.

Its just a move which will appeal to some and that's fine.

To Israel Obama was nothing more than a backstabbing fool. President Donald J. Trump has repaired our relationship with Israel, and is keeping a promise. The pope is but a man, this one is more of an activist than anything else.

Twenty five months of terror – 13 September 2015 to the present

In 2016, 12 vehicular ramming attacks and 100 stabbing attacks were thwarted by security forces.

Since 13 September 2015, 59 people have been killed in terrorist attacks and 827 people (including uninvolved Palestinians) injured.

There have been 186 stabbing attacks and 132 attempted stabbings; 163 shootings; 60 vehicular (ramming) attacks; and one vehicular (bus) bombing.

http://mfa.gov.il/MFA/ForeignPolicy/Terrorism/Palestinian/Pages/Wave-of-terror-October-2015.aspx

Since Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip in 2005, terrorists have fired more than 11,000 rockets into Israel. Over 5 million Israelis are currently living under threat of rocket attacks. More than half a million Israelis have less than 60 seconds to find shelter after a rocket is launched from Gaza into Israel.

Well, we all got it wrong. But thankfully Chris Matthews and MSNBC are on duty to clear it all up.

Matthews explains that Trump did it to get Roy Moore elected.

“...the Christian evangelicals down there with their crazy ideas about Israel, which is, I don’t know, mythical,” Matthews stated.

"They don’t understand the situation over there and how tricky it is ethnically, how tricky it is tribally. They don’t care because it’s a religious belief. Trump’s playing to that this week. You watch him,” he continued.https://www.redstate.com/streiff/2017/12/06/chris-matthews-explains-amazing-secret-reason-president-trumps-jerusalem-announcement/

True if you don't believe in our national motto and country's foundation "In god we trust". We fool ourselves if we think we can manage by politics or war. God blessed America.

Common sense tells us that it's not coincidence that Trump makes this announcement on the heels of this envoy which is working on the issue.

Not recognizing Jerusalem all these years hasn't worked. Giving massive financial support to the Palestinians hasn't worked. Obama being openly hostile to Israel hasn't worked.

So maybe we should recognize that maybe this is a good move. We can't continue to always make moves out of fear but sometimes have to make bold moves to advance the agenda.
