Just so everyone has it straight, the only race carried live on the non-cable main NBC network will be the BC Classic from 8-9PM ET.

For all other BC races, tune into the NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) cable channel.

Wow. That limits access to the games biggest event.

Wow indeed. I just assumed it would be all afternoon. I have been pumping this weekend up on non racing boards I am a member of. How do they expect to grow this sport, one that they are committed to covering.

I get it they slurp Notre Dame. It's disgusting but I get it. But this is going to far.

One method I have talked with my friends about is an effort to get a non-betting audience to participate in some type of online or call in contest with prizes. The contests would have to involve total luck in a sense but you get some to play it may roll over to future horse racing enthusiasts.

I would be embarrassed to bring anyone new to the is game.
At TWC/Rectum, the NBC sports channel is only available on the upper tiers - not at all on basic cable, although it used to be there.

For me the only way to watch most of this will be via live stream on the Breeders Cup website or on their app. We dumped cable 3 years ago - we would have to get the upgraded sports package on our cable system to get NBCSN and the BC would be the ONLY thing we'd ever watch on it. Don't feel like driving to Hoosier Park or Indiana Grand at rush hour today so we're hooking up the laptop to the big screen TV.

Amen! I spoke to my brother in law today and when I brought up the Breeders Cup he replied "they still put that shit on tv?"

I for one like it. A few years ago there were tornado warnings in the St. Louis area and the local NBC station showed nothing before the race and broke off the telecast the second after they went across the wire. Sure I saw the race but missed everything before and after it.

Join a Facebook group where one of its members will stream it. That's how I watch Eagles games just about every week as I don't live in the Philadelphia TV market - and it's not illegal if they stream it with like a 10-second delay.

NBCSN has a live stream. Anyone with a subscription to a pay tv service can link to the NBCSN live stream. 1:30PM EDT...Saturday...OOPS

Can't lie. Loved the breederscup.com live stream - actual useful commentary. Better than NBC for Classic coverage by FAR.

Couldn't agree more, Rackon. Every year the BC uses the best resources for its feed to the tracks, and the crew for this year was very good. Once a year I get reminded how skilled Caton Bredar is at managing that kind of thing. Tom Amoss was good, the Euro specialist was candid and entertaining, there was Gabby and Acacia; a couple guys from the Betting Challenge, I think. Several more useful contributors as well. They talked odds and value and how to build ticket structure. And you even got Trevor Denman doing the races as a bonus!:jump:

I thought the NBC video work was even more atrocious than usual. Or I am just not as good as I once was at imagining what 85% of the field is doing while watching a close up of two leaders. I'm generally not the type to get all upset at the more creative angles but race after race yesterday the races themselves looked to be produced by the guy that did What's The Frequency Kenneth for R.E.M.

I liked the cut aways to the overhead shots, but most of the other camera work was amature at best, by someone who probably never bet on a horse race in his life.

The BC should be embarrassed by the lack of network TV coverage. Years ago, they took the better financial deal to go with cable. Brilliant move there, BC.

Since my clothing selection leaves something to be desired, I miss the fashion segments by the two skaters.

Not really.

I cannot count the number of times a national network covering a horse race will spend 80% of the broadcast talking about a horse that does not win or run well. Yesterday, it was Arrogate. There were other horses in the race and they deserved some coverage. The winner was a co-favorite and barely mentioned during the NBC hour, until after the race. Piss poor, lazy reporting, imo.

This makes me crazy - what were the producers thinking? Lots of interesting horses and stories in this year's Classic - even Gun Runner and Collected, who were obviously the main threats, got little coverage. Arrogate vs Gun Runner should've been a slam dunk, a perfect X shaped story structure. It was barely touched on.

It also seemed to me that there were more commercials than ever, which made the editorial content even more awkward. What was the point of Baily, Baffert and Smith riding on the beach??? Pretty photography? They just repeated what had been said earlier.

The camera direction during the race was awkward - the overheads can be interesting in a replay but I find it distracting during the race.

Didn't see the NBCSN coverage but I give the BC site/app an A and NBC a D, and that's being generous.

Tv coverage to me seemed ho hum and like very little effort was put into it. Smart move adding Britney to big day coverage. Poor decision not having on main NBC channel. They could have re arranged Notre Dame. Wake is the smallest school in division 1 and put 38 on them. So compelling.

The kept saying that you could get all of Britney and Matt's picks at Breederscup.com......who would want them? Those two couldn't pick their noses. :pound::pound::pound:
